I think the characters are fine... but k. And 'sluggish pacing' isn't really a problem. I found it entertaining enough (every villain introduced is shit, the predators are made sympathetic and then just brutally murdered, which just seems fucked up to me). But if you found it boring because it's slow that's not an issue with the film, but an issue with your expectation for it to be a fast paced action movie
