I was writing notes for differential equations and was wondering why they are called “exact”. Now I know. Thanks!

I should add that our book does say the differential equation is just the differential of a function. It did not mention that differential was known as the “exact differential” and thus the name is a “exact DE”.

So it is basically like the divergence but for scalar-fields instead of vector-fields, right?
So instead of summing the partial differentials of the component-functions of our vector-field,
we sum the partial differentials of our scalar-field...

Love the videos. Why would we want to find the total differential and why would we want to 'approximate' when we can get exact answers by other means. I just don't get it. Just subscribed.
