My husband is Greek and he knows people from Ikaria. More veggies and naps are a great start but most of their diet is beans/legumes, fats (especially extra virgin olive oil, and seasonal vegetables you grow in your garden or can purchase at a farmers market. Since they are in season, the veggies and fruits are way more fresh and affordable. Diet aside, the most important part to achieve longevity is having a strong community. Lots of family and friends nearby. If you don't have family and friends, you are missing the most important part. Glad you enjoyed Ikaria.

I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. The people in Greece eat a lot more animal products than they do vegetables. Veggies are highly seasonal and local. Plus the none of the Greek islands are great for farming, so most of what their calories come from animals: goats, sheep, pigs, etc… For the most part, Dan Buettner’s book is highly fictional.

Actually the Ikarian diet mainly consists of meat and healthy fats. I’m happy you enjoyed your trip tho! ❤

I lived there for 7 years, most of the people on the island don't live by any of the things you watch on YouTube.

They don't live to be 100, the meat and most vegetables are imported from Athens, and they live granted, a slightly slower greek life than the Greeks, which is true.

I am writing a book which incorporates the truth about Ikaria, it is nothing like media wants you to think it is, and the locals couldn't care less about the radiation springs, life water or the tourists.
