I’m Mac user and have Proxmox running on my Home Server. When I need, for some reason, run windows, I use Microsoft Remote Desktop to connect to the Windows VM and it works like a charm.

I have two distinct PCs (Server/NAS and Desktop PC) in one DIY case. As the Desktop is not running all the time, but I want my Server to be cooled by the same case fans, I use a Corsair Commander Pro.
When the Desktop is of, the temperature probes of the commander pro are controlling the case fans with fan curves I preloaded onto the Commander Pro. They are powered by the SATA power plug only.
The USB header of the Commander Pro is connected to my Desktop and when I boot it up, I get full controll of fans and RGB via openRGB and lm-sensors (or fan controll in Windows).

Very nice. I have been running Proxmox for about 6 years now. All of my VMs were Ubuntu and some containers. I made my first Win10 VM this year out of necessity. Server class MBs are slow to boot with all the extra diags and setup they do. My main Proxmox that I built last year is on Gigabyte MB with Ryzen 9 5950X and 64GB and room for another 64GB when I need it. I have one GPU card in pass-thru and the other not so I can have local console. Friends don't let friends use Win11. I was foolish enough to allow one machine to update to Win11 and did not get around working with the computer for 3 weeks, so I was not able to revert back to Win10. When I have time will have to re-install Win10. Win11 is just horrible. Too many things to list.

Thats nuts mate good work and good direct info on your findings, I am curently waiting a Dell T7910 Workstation that I got second hand to replace an old Dell 690 Precision that is my current PM Hypervisor, Im selecting which Mikrotik switches to get so I can upgrade to 10Gbps Uplinks and 10Gb To the NAS and new Dell proxmox HV. im exited to upgrade mine but your project is a dream one i will be watching carefully, I was interested to hear you mention the HDMI over IP i think it was because that is something I'm thinking will be a rewarding upgrade too. have fun from Australia Nick

Stumbled on your channel and this is a setup that I've been looking to do for a while. Been needing a GPU passthrough for running local LLM's for AI development and using my Xeon PowerEdge T350 does not support and cut it for running open source LLM's in CPU mode, works but not ideal and fast enough. Was going to have a dedicated machine but if I can run everything in proxmox and move away from ESXi this might be a nice solution. Thank you

I've can also install a desktop environment on proxxmox and saves the web interface through it to e.g. launch vms

Nice video. Am in a similar situation as 99% on Linux (Mint) now but always been this way since Gentoo days. I do need to use Windblows every so often so this seems to be a decent setup. Not to mention I wish to swap out my ISP FTTP router, make it is a bridge, and run a OPNsense virtualized machine as the router (opens options for things like Suricata etc). Would also like to spin up some K8S clusters as am a Cloud Platform Engineer; so the hardest thing at the moment is what CPU and how much memory 🤔 Current shopping basket is a AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, ASUS Prime B650-PLUS and 64GB Corsair DDR5. GPU I still need to consider but would be of the NVIDIA flavour.

My understanding is that i440 does not work well with GPU passthrough, and you're supposed to use q35. I'm not sure of the reasons why but that matches what I've read, and my own experiences.

Dumb question, how were you able to record the proxmox app from your phone onto the video? Which program or app did you use?

the proxmox mobile app isnt killer, like why cant i edit all the same settings i can on desktop, this makes me use a browser to edit stuff on proxmox wich is way wore then anything they could do on the mobile app.

Is it possible to dual boot windows 10 and proxmox so I do not have to do the pass though and simply boot from win 10 and also do not share resources? Or better config the pass though on a VM in proxmox?
