Military leaders of the coup in Niger have refused to receive representatives from the United Nations, the African Union - and the regional organisation, ECOWAS.
The coup leaders said their safety could not be guaranteed.
US Acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland flew to Niamey on Monday but was denied permission to meet with coup leader Abdourahamane Tiani or with Bazoum, who is in detention.
Instead, she spoke for two hours with other army officers.

Al Jazeera’s Charles Stratford reports from Senegal's capital Dakar.

No interference from the US and the UN. They are irrelevant. The more anxious those two are, the more certain that what occurred was the right thing to do.

This is the most appropriate time for African nations to come together, am just wondering how the UN still have courage to call for diplomatic dialogue, the UN that was used to fight Muamar Gaddafi. We are not that fools, they've ride on our back for so long. Enough is Enough. 🇰🇪

You did the right thing. Set up your government first, then tear up all those colonial contacts then renegotiate everything with countries that respect you .

Why not let a sovereign nation solve its own problem! Respect the voice of the majority of Nigerien people! Stop your intervention in the name of restoring democracy. But the truth is the west are just protecting their own selfish interest!

Good on them, it’s their country, their choice. We can’t force them. France should respect 🇳🇪’s sovereignty

Africa must and will be free. We're tired of languishing in poverty while others get rich with our God given resources.

They have chosen their path. And surprisingly their is no anti-coup protest which means that the so called democratically elected government has failed them just like it has failed its neighbour Nigerians… you can’t force them to reinstate the man, all you have to do is let them release the man and allow him access to his fundamental rights.. that’s all
