2023 Isuzu MU-X review: LS-T | Better family fit than Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport?

The 2023 Isuzu MU-X large SUV has been updated for MY23, although the extent of its changes are relatively minor. Either way, the rivalling Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport are on notice once again.

Based on the 2023 Isuzu D-Max dual-cab ute, the MU-X seven-seater looks to appeal to families and adventurers alike thanks to its three-row practicality and genuine off-road chops.

But in this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar spends a week with the MU-X's 4x4 LS-T variant to see if it actually has what it takes to satisfy the requirements of family buyers.

After all, with a body-on-frame chassis, the MU-X is more like a traditional 4WD and less like a modern Sports Utility Vehicle, which experience shows is likelier to be a more comfortable runabout for families - but is that the case here?

I bought 2019 MUX LST for 51, 000 dollars new.. 67, 000 dollars and counting is a ridiculous price for a car with an under done engine. My MUX is slow, noisy in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears .4th, 5 th, and 6 th it's okay. The gearbox has never missed a beat, no complaints there.I'm an old goat and iit's slowness and soft suspension suit me .Younger people want a bit of zip, a bit of get up and go. I don't think the extra 10 KWs and 20 NMs would make much difference..Having to wait 18 months for one is doing you a favour. Your money could be spent better elsewhere. My MUX is good on fuel 6 • 5 litres a hundred on the motorway. Which I think is exceptional. When loaded up on big trips it uses 8 litres a 100, as my wife brings everything AND the kitchen sink. To be fair I think all the Ute's and SUVs are 10, 000 dollars over priced. I'll stick to my old one . I'm quite happy with that .

Great review.
Some reviewers noted the engine noise is more distinctive than others. I found the riding quality is rather harsh.
No lsd 4h so I can’t justify whether it is a good buy.

I had one and never again . Noisy engine, no highway overtaking power and speed, agricultural like engine, too soft suspension for corners and city driving, good for off road. A bit low clearance. Under body protection collects and packs sand and dirt so tight, very hard to wash.

the only thing makes me stay away from MUX is that as a family SUV, it is not a AWD on sealed road, i am fine with the not so impressive torque etc, as i am a defensive driver, i think at least MUX should have a TOD system(but again, the price will be even higher than current). with two young children in the car, the AWD is a wiser choice. therefore if letting me choose in between MUX and Everest, i will go for the new all time AWD Everest for the safety, even it is slightly more expensive.

I have been told by a dealer 18 month wait minimum, could be 24 months. Also the drive away special is going to end in the coming months.

She states the MU-X has a double glove box, it doesn't, however the D-MAX does. The rubber floor mats are not standard i.e. optional accessory which you pay for.

You dont need 360 camera ever on any car. Reverse camera is good enough.

I will not buy another Isuzu. Their customer support and warranty is pathetic. They spent 4 weeks looking for excuses not to fix the DPF problem on 2021 model (current engine).

Not enough power ISUZU. I bought a Fortuner much more torque and punch.😊
