What's changed? Isuzu MU-X 2023 review | Updated family SUV takes 4WD fight to new Ford Everest

Richard Berry attends the launch of the updated 2023 Isuzu MU-X testing this seven-seater SUV for price and value, safety, fuel efficiency, practicality, ownership costs and what its like to drive.

Counting the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest and Mitsubishi PajeroSport among its direct rivals the MU-X like them is based on an off-road ute - the Isuzu D-Max.

Braked towing capacity is an impressive 3500kg, while ground clearance from 230mm is also excellent.

about the warrantee, I haven't done 100k in 10 years so would be ok 4 me, I do get that other folks would do a lot more kilometers. when lots younger 1k miles a week was a regular thing for me, [we have kilometers now]

It is neither realistic nor safe to tow a 3.5 tonne caravan, just because your vehicle is rated to do that. Common sense suggests that 75% of the allowable tow weight is ideal and safe. In this example you have a caravan that weighs considerably more than the tow vehicle. It would not take much to have the GCM exceeded and void your insurance. Not to mention ramifications if you have a serious traffic accident

How do these other countries get past all the reliability issues with emissions on these diesels? In the states that thing would be in the shop constantly. Even our heavy truck long haul tractor trailers are extremely unreliable.

I think you meant 3.0 ltr turbo diesel, not petrol engine 😂. But a great review 👍

Good luck waiting for one, that’s why we went for the Toyota Fortuner. No regrets

ride rougher then a kluger or Palisade it will be but guru (car expert) can they both go where mu-x can?

It is a 4x4, not a SUV. SUV's have unibodies like Toareg, Cayenne, X5, etc. A 4x4 has a ladder frame chassis like this one here.

Even from distance it's obvious the distances between the different parts of the the body are not as small and equal as in the other Japanese brands such as Toyota, Subaru, Mitsubishi and Nissan. Not to say the vehicle is not good, quite the opposite it is, but there's a reason why it is cheaper than the alternatives from the other Japanese brands.

The title says it takes the fight to the Ford Everest but no mention of which one is better. Based on the end rating the Everest should be a shoe in.

At 4:33 you say "all MU-X's have the same 3 litre turbo diesel petrol engine". A diesel petrol engine? I haven't heard of this one before!

We need this model in a PHEV with fast charger and reverse charge my home and tools .I live in South Africa we experience 6 hours blackouts per day everyday and into the future.

What's happened to Carsguide's Friday PodCarst? It's just disappeared with no explanation to the loyal viewers.

He always says "Top of the Range" and not Top of the Line, That's not how it should be, it's not EV
