Waste of Silicon: AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT CPU Review & Benchmarks (vs. 3700X, 3900X, More)

AMD's Ryzen 7 3800XT CPU benchmarked vs. the R9 3900X, R5 3600XT, 3700X, and Intel CPUs. Questionable use of sand, here.

The AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT is as oddly positioned as was the original AMD R7 3800X CPU. In our 3800X review, we concluded "don't waste the money," noting that the 3700X made more sense. Now, with the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X being cheaper than at launch (it typically sits around $400, as the official new MSRP), a same-priced 3800XT leaves us scratching our heads. AMD is trying to raise ASP, it seems, because otherwise, the XT series doesn't have the same punch as other AMD launches. The company is starting to circle the Intel CPU release pattern of many years ago, and that concerns us. Either way, we're benchmarking the AMD R7 3800XT vs. the 3900X, 3800X, 3700X, Intel i9-10900K, i7-10700K, 10600K, and more. We briefly talk about Infinity Fabric clocks, overclocking, and voltages here, but our higher focus on overclocking is in the 3600XT CPU review (linked above). Benchmarks again look at the best CPUs for video editing, Adobe Premiere, gaming, Blender, code compile, and similar workloads.

I see what you're doing here, Steve. First you start with peripherals, t-shirts and the like and then before we know it, you're declaring 'Fine, I'll do it myself' and we see the 3700GN.

Hey Steve, in the thumbnail are you snapping or giving the 3800XT the finger?

A year later still no regrets on picking the 3700x.

This product exists to A. Capitalize on tiny process improvements. B. Slow down the value degradation of the non XT product. Instead of dropping the price of that CPU, they present the XT which at full retail makes the non XT product a value. AMDs marketing team is coming up with creative ways to defeat the AMD price problem

I'd love to see an undervolting video. It might be interesting if it brings the silicon improvements to light

That thumbnail; "I am Tech Jesus" I think AMD might be attempting to take up as much shelf space as possible so when people go CPU shopping all they would see is AMD.

AMD CPU: We have no more competitors now. What should we do now? Let's rival with our self.
AMD GPU: Crawling and arm reaching out for help.

GN thumbnails are top game quality, I just clicked because of it, the content is also superb, GN is so underrated to be honest, should be at 5M subscribers minimum...

Every time you show these AMD performance charts, it makes me REALLY want a R9 3950X.

Hello! I love your videos, especially the CPU and GPU benchmarking. I'm not in the market to build a new PC right now, but I"m learning a whole lot about why things are done the way they are in the industry. I especially appreciate the mixture of "what does the technology do" coverage and "why is Company X behaving this way" coverage. I'm learning to have an entirely new perspective on these things. Y'all are awesome.

I have noticed that I never ever see 3800/X/XT(?) advertised prominently as stand alone parts for end users to purchase. I tend to see 3600/X/XT and 39X0/X/XTs.
