Private Liability Insurance explained | Coya

Who actually protects you from yourself? That’s what private liability insurance is for. More precisely: This insurance is there for you in three cases:
1 - if you hurt someone.
2 - if you damage or destroy another person’s property.
And 3 - if you cause another person financial damages.

It all sounds pretty theoretical, right? So, maybe it’s better if I explain with some examples: Do you have a cat? What if it thoughtlessly uses your girlfriend’s expensive bag to sharpen its claws? Parking in a driveway and preventing someone from leaving their garage can also be expensive - for example, if the person misses their flight to Australia. It would also be dumb to lose the key to the entrance door to your entire apartment building - not just your own apartment key. In this case, you’d normally have to pay for a new lock and keys for the entire building. Or, a case that will hopefully never happen: you haven’t attached a flower pot to your windowsill properly; it falls and injures a passer-by.

In the worst cases, liability claims can run into the millions. But don’t worry, Coya insures you up to 30 million euros worldwide - as long as you have a German residence. You want to insure your loved ones too? Coya offers a tariff where your family members also benefit from your insurance. Your spouse, one child ... or more - your whole family is now covered.
