As a 25 year Astoria resident the neighborhood itself is changing dramatically and rapidly. All that you mention about lower costs and more for your money has attracted a different demographic than the family neighborhood Astoria has been for the past century. Nowadays corporations are buying up properties trying to make the area like every suburb in the US. The diversity you mention is on its last legs as each time a small business closes, it’s turned into a corporate chain. Same could be said of much of NYC sadly.

Good choice with Butcher Bar, they have the best burnt ends I've ever tasted and I've worked all over Texas. I recommend Arepas Cafe on 36th Ave and Pita Pan on 30th Ave as well. Also, Queens is still part of NYC, you gotta pay the NYC city tax in all 5 boroughs.

Bohemian is NOT Soviet-era. It was around long before 1917. I love Butcher Bar, but for your Korean audience, take them to KAL. I am a 36-year resident of Astoria and know the area inside out. I haven't heard the term Metro since I lived in Europe. It's called the subway here in NYC.
