2020 BMW M4 Competition | Exhaust Notes

Headphones in, volume up. This exhaust is madness. Just listen to all the pops and bangs emitted on overrun by this M4 Competition with the M Performance Titanium Exhaust. They keep going, even when you don't ask it to - hilariously fun. Not even the Jaguar F-Type pops like this. And what a wild 7,500 rpm redline noise. Sure it's not the banshee wail of the E90 M3 V8, but the F10 I-6 is nevertheless soul pleasing and enjoyable. Enjoy.

I just bought a 2020 M4 alpine metallic white competition carbon roof, carbon brakes, every option plus full leather Merino with 4k miles from a BMW executives, so it even came with tier 3 or 2 of ppf just the front and key spots around the car. It doesn't sound the best but you can remedy this with an equal length exhaust, that's the problem for some reason BMW went with unequal length exhausts which loses that aspirated BMW sound. But to be honest it only does that in sport plus mode, I find the best balance being sport engine, sport plus suspension, and sport/sport plus (for heavier, sport is more realistic feeling) for steering. And most importantly only dynamic shifting level 2 not 3 otherwise it's not shifting gears until redline. It's a really cool car as you can see with 4 different adjustable dynamics that really do make a big difference everyone can find their sweet spot. If you want some but not crazy like the video burbles that's sport with d2 shifting, if you want to be in stealth mode it's in efficient mode with the exhaust flaps closed and gears shifting at 2.5k rpms. Basically you can crank it up and it becomes a hardcore street racing car or you can tone it down into comfort and efficient modes and cruise on the highway for hours. Because of this variability and almost like having two cars in one is why I went with this over the 911 on top of the daily practicality. I will get the 911 feel like I should have more than one car and a big house before justifying it but that's just me. I went with the f82 over the new g8x for several reasons one because you always want last year or at least LCI BMW so the bugs are worked out (it sucks going to the shop for little things all the time), it's even bigger and watered down (not as visceral), the seats are ridiculously uncomfortable because of the carbon ball sack holder, no real gauges and buttons, that sweet DCT (as close to manual without having to push the clutch myself) coming from a 6 speed I was worried but I love this tranny and think it's the best of both worlds (obviously a little less feeling than shifting your own but in real world practicality with traffic this is the best answer by far (definitely nothing like a slush box, have to engage the clutch at starts and the car will not shift for you it'll just hit redline so they really knocked it out the park with this DCT imo. And of course looks f82 definitely looks way cleaner and smoother but I'm sure I'll get used to the new one because we all said the same thing with the f8x as well. When it does grow on me I'll have a very low mileage (I'm at 6k) fully optioned last year M4 to trade in, but I plan on keeping this car and just adding to the stable at this point in my life. The 2020 M4 is such a bravarian muscle car, totally the Germans mustang/charger or whatever, it just eats the road. With this much power almost should require a class so one doesn't end up in a ditch or over a curb from losing control although the ECU is insanely good at not letting that happen, unless of course you disengage it and go even beyond the m mode which does allow some tail sliding but you can turn it all off and go commando. Overall it's a great car and can be a daily driver easily, I don't have any complaints, it does it all, holds its own against a 992 turbo and can still go to Best buy and grab a 55inch with the fold down seats. Really solid well rounded car, better than I thought it would be

I don’t think it sounds as bad as people say. Sure it doesn’t sound as good as the V8 M3. But that’s not a fair comparison. After seeing the new 4 series concept, I think I might need to buy an F80 or F82.

I'm on the look out for an F80 M3/F82 M4 and the first thing I plan on doing is to download bootmod3 and turn off the burbles. Sounds gash.

I see no reason why you should upgrade this to a Performance exhaust what some people do. This sounds good. Not extreme but you hear enough crackles and burbles which gives it much more fun than a stock M4.

Hey is this one already with the new opf? If yes, how is the sound? A lot more quiet than the old one?

I own a 2020 M4 Comp, You have cat-less downpipes, for sure, so do I, BTW they sound the same.

Why the pop crackle and snap? Is this Rice Krispies effect a way to compensate for the poor noise performance or is it a way to attract little boys?

It's sad that all BMW cars sound like garbage now. They used to sound good. Even worse is the fact they pump in fake sound in the cabin in all their cars now.
