The title says it all. Here are 3 tips that can make you sound instantly better on the piano.

These are NOT really complicated and you don't have to be an advanced player to be able to benefit from them.

All you'll need are some basic chording skills and understand how to play some simple chord progressions.

If you're looking for lessons on those, we have a couple here:
The 1-5-6-4 Progression:
The basics of chords and chording (Chord Hacks - FREE series)

Here are the 3 tips with their timecodes:

- #1 - Using arpeggios - 0:37
- #2 - Using chord inversions - 1:33
- #3 - Using slash chords - 4:15

I LOVE using slash chords to help me get out of a creative rut because they can change the mood of the song instantly.

So try them out and let me know which is your favorite!

If you want some songs to try them out on, you can get our 500 Songs in 5 Days digital training pack here:

You are a special gifted person and a great teacher. When I have given up all my hopes of learning because of my age you made it so easy for me. I am practicing your method of playing chords everyday. Thank you and God bless you.

Hey, I have one more tip: When you play a "slash chord" where the bass note is the middle note of the chord (for example if you're playing a G chord with a bass note of B, or a C chord with a bass note of E), try leaving that middle note out of the right hand! For the example of a C chord, you could have an E in the bass and just a C and G in the right hand, so the bass note is the only E. (This works whether or not you play the bass note in octaves.)

Used to think that slash chords sound awful but once i got better, i found that they are useful and sound good if you use them at the right time and place.
Thank you.

This channel is heaven sent! I learned piano without learning notes, cuz what my momma hire when I was young doesn't know how to read them. I am actually relying on hearing mostly, and this type of videos made my play sound a lot better. ❤️

I'm 55 and just begun learning to play about 4 years ago. I took lessons for almost 2 years and finances became a big issue fir me so, i had to discontinue the lessons. I learned inversions but couldn't remember or even grasp some of these inversions and other things. I don't read music kinda sorry to say but, i have a gift of being able to remember entire songs based on sound and what comes next. The way you teachis VERY simikoar to my instructor's style minus the grabbing of my fingers for correct placement (😂). You have a different approach that have opened up new neurological pathways in my brain. I'm enthusiastic about continuing and, your tutorials are quenching my thirst for piano knowledge. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🌹

Thank you! I started practicing arpeggio’s yesterday and they became very simple that inversions are easy to execute now! Mechanically that is. Still need to play with when to use specific inversions, but I can do it with out looking now! Wow!!! What an improvement. The piano is feeling so intuitive and natural to me for the first time ever. I’m 40!

This is so helpful. Thanks, Lisa! Everything you have done lately has been the perfect level for me—just beyond beginner and learning to add more variety to my playing.

Puzzled by your use of the term "first inversion" at 2'05" - by definition, a first inversion has the 3rd at its bass and you have the root at the bass. So your first inversion is actually root position with a slightly different chord spacing. A first inversion has a very different sound, which you demonstrate later when you do put the third and fifth in the bass, and it is these that are 1st and 2nd inversions.

This is just beautiful. I play with all three. Haven't gotten use to the slash chords yet but I'm still practicing. It's just awesome. Thanks for sharing
