Gaslit is a modern take on Watergate that focuses on the untold stories and forgotten characters of the scandal – from Nixon’s bumbling and opportunistic subordinates to the deranged zealots aiding and abetting their crimes to the tragic whistleblowers who would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down. The story will center on Martha Mitchell, played by Julia Roberts. A big personality with an even bigger mouth. Martha is a celebrity Arkansan socialite and wife to Nixon’s loyal Attorney General, John Mitchell, played by Sean Penn. Despite her party affiliation, she’s the first person to publicly sound the alarm on Nixon’s involvement in Watergate, causing both the Presidency and her personal life to unravel.

As someone who came to age during the Watergate fiasco and kept up with it every day as it unfolded, I can tell with a great deal of certainty that 99% of this movie is factual. It's not just the scandal itself that we are witnessing the FIRST TIME a President thought he was above the law, it's a love story- one on the rising accession of one (John and Mo Dean) and the utter destruction of the other (Martha and John Mitchell).

2 BIG THUMBS UP for Julia Roberts and Sean Penn... their characters are SPOT ON- just watch old youtube videos of them.... Julia and Sean have them PEGGED. Can anyone say OSCARS to BOTH? I can! Ditto for Betty Gilpin as Mo and Dan Stevens as John Dean... 2 additional OUTSTANDING pretrials of them.

Perhaps something could've been done to lighten Betty Giplin's eyebrows? All that bleached blonde hair & still has almost black eyebrows. Not all the way lightened, but perhaps to a lt. brown or even a taupe shade? Am I the only one seeing this? She is a pretty girl! I love this strong these eyebrows come off kinda distracting
