Quest 3S Hands On - Meta Quest 3 Just Got More Affordable!

Meta Quest 3S pre-orders are now live! The Quest 3S will be shipping on 15th October. Here's my hands on first impressions where I compare the Quest 3S to the Quest 2 and it's more expensive brother, the Quest 3.

Great video, as always! At 2:59 it shows the Q2 and Q3S as having a dual LCDs and the Q3 having a single LCD. That is, of course, backwards.

can we just get a bare bones quest 3 with the lenses and resolution for pcvr. I think they should go back into the pcvr market by making headsets with the same specs as their standalone headsets but without the expensive chip and ram. For them this will mean people who want vr who already have a powerful enough pc will have a cheaper option and might actually buy the thing.

299 bucks seems to be kind of a sweet spot for peoples that want to get into VR on a budget, I still have the original Quest, but the price is making me consider getting this as an upgrade.

Removing the 3.5mm jack is the wildest thing I’ve ever heard. VR headsets are closer to Xbox/PS/laptops than cell phones. Stop trying to remove the 3.5mm jack.

I'm guessing Meta have got lots of spare parts from the Quest 2 supply chain to use up, and this is one way to do it.

Essentially with the lower resolution performance should be better than quest 3 but obviously quest 3 will look better than quest 3s

Something else to consider - because the Quest 3S has lower resolution panels, it will use less GPU power than the Quest 3 for most games - so, could be some games actually run slightly better on Quest 3S and/or use less battery power.

There's something funny with this 3S release...I was wondering... If it has LESS resolution, but the SAME processor as the Q3, it can technically run faster than the Q3, right ? As it does not need to push the same amt of pixels... I don't think it worth, because the resolution, sweet spot and lens for me worth a lot the extra $ for the 3, but really good to have this cheaper option.

on the website it says the quest 3 is still 650 so is it going to change soon? I want to upgrade and I was thinking about the 3s but I want to upgrade because of discomfort with my quest 2.

No higher resolution and no headphone jack. That's all I needed to know. I'm sticking with the quest 2 for now. Thanks a lot for a great video that gives us all the important information in a crystal clear way.

So this headset is mostly aimed at new VR customers, or situationally Q2 owners.

first time VR buyers - sure

anyone with a Q2 - not really worth upgrading unless you REALLY want a better MR experience

literally everyone else - waste of money

Meh, I mainly use my Quest 2 for PCVR, so this doesn't seem like a worthwhile reason to jump still. Not playing much VR these days anyways, probably just gonna wait for Quest 4 at this point unless some must-have games come along.
