I've been an expat for almost 8 years. Living abroad is apart of my life, and I don't think I could ever go back to my home country of Canada to live. Why? Well, that's what this video is about. You should probably just play the video and watch it. Get it together, bud.

I feel exactly as you did living here in the UK. I've set everything up ready for my move to Phnom Penh and I'll be getting out of here this year!

Hey Ryan! I've lived in Thailand 22 years and I would never dream of living back in the US. I like traveling around to other countries in the region, but I kiss the ground when I land back in Bangkok. The blended aroma of dog shit, diesel fumes, and joss sticks are perfume to me. My homepage got permanently reset in 1999.

I'm a Khmer Canadian living the rat race as you said here in Montreal. Never been back to Cambodia yet since the Khmer Rouge took over. Hoping to return there one day. Love your videos. Been to Fat Canada many many many times. Still fluent in Khmer and English and French.

Expat life has its moments. Several days ago I experienced a Thai Ambulance and a evening in a Thai hospital due to food poisoning. While at it they found something else wrong with me due to blood tests and I visited the same hospital 3 days in row for treatment and I am now a much weller person. That would never happen back in the UK (aka Canada to you); I would need to be almost on my deathbed before I got treated and then they would kick me out as soon as they had done the minimum to take care of me. In SE Asia they do take care of you and service is amazing. Anyhow just saying you never know what will happen to you and most of my experiences here in SE Asia are good or amazing.

Hi I'm in Phnom Penh now . Left Australia January this year as I saw only Work. Debt and everything will cost you so much more in Australia plus no one was happy. So I went to Thailand first and now Cambodia. I will figure it out as I go. I will not be rich but I will be happy and seeing this amazing rock we live on in space .

I spend most of the year in Bangkok, along with a Toronto friend. We returned to Toronto last fall to the shock of daily pub meal expenses. We spent CA$35 to CA$60 a night each. When you put this in Thai baht, that's an outrageous 900 to 1600 Thai baht. Meal was $20, pints $9 each, a whiskey or two, only $6 each. In rather expensive Bangkok, I'd spend about 500-600 baht ($20-23) for the same volume. Skytrain home about 32 baht/$1.25. Anyway, as you say, it's all about self-education and living a bit on the edge. Not to mention, several years ago Ontario banned smoking in completely open patios and terraces. Not a problem in wide open, outdoor bars Southeast Asia. Great video report, Ryan. Sent you a donation.

I visited Canada one summer after leaving the country 20 years prior and one morning in Toronto I got pulled over on my bike and got a ticket for not having a bell on my bicycle.

I said I never return to Cambodia after I left there back in 1979. I have returned every year for the last ten years since my early retirement. I'm planning to move back to live in SE Asia in a few years. Never say never. Take care and never comb your hair!

Great story man!👍
I'm leaving Calgary on May 1st for PP, one way ticket 🎟 😬. I'm 61, retired, and ready to live the choice "no snow", "extremely hot" lifestyle .😛
Always enjoy your videos 📹 😊

I was born in Canada but lived my whole life and grew up on the beach in Belize. 2014 I finally returned to Canada and am so sick of it that we have now moved to Mexico in October 2021 where we vlog full time hoping my channel takes off and we never have to go back. The next year 2023 we will try out life and vlogging in Asia.

I've been obsessed with this channel since I discovered it a few days ago. I've been running through the complete library. Great footage of Cambodia and a personable host with clever things to say. Curse the YT algorithm from keeping this channel from me for so long!

Well put! We're currently living in Costa Rica and many expats have similar reasons for escaping the US/Canada. We're only two months in, so we'll see how things develop!

We're dying, or at least wilting, over here in Australia for all the reasons you mention. Got to make plans! Great varting.

Love your work, Ryan! The Australians 'For Riel' first pointed me in the direction of your videos. You are definitely one of the funniest people on You Tube and (I am learning) one of the more intelligent vloggers (or varters). Much the same can be said about Australia, as you said about Canada. The Coivd19 restrictions over the last 2 years finally alerted many Australians to how quickly this country can and loves to, remove our freedoms. Pwer hungry politicians everywhere. Like you, I am working on a way to escape to SE Asia for the rest of my life. All my personal opinion, of course. Keep up the great varts.

I can’t agree more Ryan. Currently living in New Zealand for almost 20 years. Life is comfortable here, specially when you have kids. Education is free, play grounds in every community, heath care is good! But as you said sometime it can be boring as Fk, lol. Work, home, supermarket, that’s all every day life!! Shops close 5.30 almost every day. Fortunately me and my wife have okay jobs which allow us to have some holidays almost every year! As Asian, we always choose holidays in Asian countries over Australia or North America, because we miss miss that little excitement/chaotic feel. Thanks for your video.

I love my expat life in Kuala Lumpur. It is so exciting, colourful, vibrant. I love the freedom. Life in Europe is restrictive, every aspect is governed and it is very difficult to break the mould. I've been here for 10 years and have no desire to go back any time soon. My husband and I might spend half a year home, and half abroad at some point, but for now we are staying here.

I know a lot of Filipinos who would do anything to live in Canada! Always greener on the other side. Life in Southeast Asia, if you are prosperous can be very convenient, free and adventurous. Love following your videos.

fast food should only count as an antidepressant--hilarious! I agree with you about returning to my home country. After 3 or 4 years of full time travel, living in the US is not a life anymore. Thanks

You are one of the few men I know who keeps getting better looking the older you get. I, myself, was in Europe from 2018-2020. Kicked out due to the pandemic and being a U.S. citizen. I really dislike being in the U.S. So I'm off again (this week!), first stop Tbilisi, Georgia. Frankly, I don't care if I ever see the U.S. again. 😃

I've been living in Cambodia for 3 months now. When I think about the monetary opportunity cost from the enormous salary decrease and increase in hours worked, it seems like an awkward choice but man I was going mental with only 3 weeks off a year. I still haven't been gone long enough to know what I'll do. Go back home after my year teaching contract ends. Sign another year? Stay but do something else? Go to another country? Who knows. But it beats the pure boredom I felt back home.
