We list common faults on the L320 Range Rover sport as well as any common issues that include problems with the LION V6 and LION V8 diesel engine and the 4.4 V8 and 4.2 Supercharged engine. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport was the first generation of the Sport model, which is now in its third generation and although the L320 Range Rover Sport was no longer sold after 2013 many still desire one due to its body on frame construction which was shared with the Land Rover Discover 3 and 4, or LR3 and LR4 in some markets.

I’ve owned my 2006 L320 for 14 years. Currently at 330, 000 km and still a tank. Longest I’ve ever kept a vehicle. I’ve kept it properly serviced with an aftermarket Land Rover specialist. Compressor and air suspension at about 200k, the hydraulic front sway bar and lower control arms just recently. Regular brakes and tires of course. 4.2l supercharged engine and ZF transmission are bulletproof, and aside from stone chips the body is excellent. I think I’ll keep driving it to 400k and then find a later model LR4

I bought a 2010 r.rover sport 3.0 tdv6 5 yrs ago with 73, 000 miles, and i've still got it, it's been very reliable. As soon as i bought it i had an engine oil change, auto gearbox oil change, transfer box and axle oil changes.Timing belt kit.The rear brake pipes rust on these so i had these replaced with copper ones.I've waxoiled the pipework for the air suspension as these can rust.If you take care of these cars they will take care of you.

Purchased my TDV8 in February 2009 and now has 150, 000 kms on the clock. Brilliant car and the expected repairs have been completed by authorised shops. Cannot complain at all of performance, comfort and reliability. Just a lovely vehicle and I have recently cancelled my order for the latest version.

Great review.

Bought 2011 AB 5.0 SC.
Love it. Goes like stink, no problems after 2 yrs of ownership. First thing I did was change all fluids. Cost a bit but worth doing.
Tax and fuel? well it could be far worse. Not changing it for a long time.

Great video, along with the L322 one. A couple of omissions. The first 2009 facelift model still used the 3.6 TDV8 engine and 6 speed gearbox with standard gear lever. Later TDV6/SDV6 models were known for crank failure some very early. Most RRS fans would avoid these.

I actually LOL'd at the end with the written words. Great video on the engines. Proper job.

Would love to own a 5.0 SC RR Sport. Always nervous to pull the trigger though since I hear such polarizing information on the reliability. Some say it’s been rock solid and others say it’s a nightmare. I think I may just remove the air suspension and replace it with coil overs once they go anyways. But it sounds like the Jag powered RR’s are solid vehicles all around.

I have a RR L320 HST, 4, 2 SC. 340 000 kmtrs on the clock. Never had any problems. Regular service with oil-change and brake-pads. That is all. Jusst love to drive it. Fuel economy is not the best, but in total much better than my old Merc.

Great video 🌞, I’m glad you added everything at the end so I don’t have to read it in the comments from people who never owned one.🥳🥳🥳🤩

Surprising accurate with only a few omissions.

A Facelift L320 ‘Range Rover’ Sport is now cheaper to buy than a Discovery 4 and one hell of a lot more of a car to have.
Chances are it’ll never have been off road much either.
Not all of them have suffered major engine failures but we always tend to hear from those that have!

Common problems are the air intake manifolds cracking on the SDV6, but there are plenty of good non-franchised Independent LR guys out there that will fix them.
Entertain yourself by watching ‘Its LR Time’ videos of YouTube every Sunday morning and buy yourself an iCarsoft i930 OB II diagnostic tool to calm the nerves, whenever the warning lights think they have become a disco-tech light show.

2.7 TDV need a few mods that become handy in order to don’t lose the engine. Modify or calibrate oil pressure sensor to trigger an alarm to 0.8 bar on low, idle rpm and also to trigger if the oil pressure drops bellows 2.1 bar on rpm above 2500 is way safer than following LR manuals; also regarding the oil pump, fit as soon as possible 2009 oil pumps those are reinforced and make sure to use 15 mm pump rotor, there is an reinforced 19mm available on russian market although there is a japanese even better. Last but nevertheless don’t ever push the engine, DONT REV UP WILE THE ENGINE OIL IS COLD, and to warm it take a while. This on the long run kill any FORD LION engines.

I had a 2.7 RR sport. Love it till the oil pump housing broke which the timing cog is attached to. Jumped timing and smashed the valves into pistons. My forth RR! They are a nighmare for going wrong and very expensive to repair. Bit like a long marriege time for a change so got a highly reliable XC90 highly reliable and no sleepless nights!!

What the 'Internet clowns' wont tell you is that they've not sat in a Range Rover, let alone driven one otherwise they won't sound like they are trying to write a script for comedians on Top Gear. The real buyers and drivers would start by mentioning the wonderful ride, the space and the superb view of the road. Range Rover drivers do long runs, to Sweden, for example in mine, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another. Four (so far) for me since 1972. I have a Bentley, but the Range Rover is better. In fact, its the best car in the world, one you can take to Aldi and the Andes.

My 4.4 L320 has been pretty reliable. Have 135k miles on it now and have done complete cooling system replacement, new brakes all around, new front lower control arms, new AC compressor and new drive belts. Not bad really

Air suspension is the biggest problem on all.
