Beautifully and concisely articulated, not once did I stumble or feel lost on a point you were making. Very rare in videos like this, especially on Kant I feel like.

Great stuff.

Kant was a great man. His concept of noumena blew my mind when I was younger. The idea that our psychology filters the physical realm through our senses to produce the objects in reality that we experience, was a revelation to me. I had some knowledge of physics, so I was somewhat conscious of the atomic structure of things, but I never thought of a psychological component providing a coherent understanding of it. Fascinating stuff. Keep up the great work. I appreciate anybody with an enthusiasm for the love of wisdom, such as yourself.

You're such an amazing teacher, you always manage to make really complex ideas understandable for everyone. Kant and German idealism definitely needs 21st century interpreters like you.Keep up the good work!

When I was working on my masters in philosophy, at San Francisco State, I took a class on Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason, and it completely changed my life! I find it fascinating how the German Idealists took Kant’s ideas and developed them further in a direction he probably did not conceive of, but was influential, nonetheless.

A thought that I had while watching this really great presentation was that it feels as though in some ways the categories and their comforts have been transmuted in the crude genetic essentialism of the last 20 years, involving the fruitless quest for genes to cover everything from who you want to have sex with to your spiritual despair.

This is great, even if you're well versed in Kant, certain things 'click' into place. Thank you.

When Kant says noumena 'causes' phenomena could he not be talking about material cause? whereas Hume is talking about efficient cause, this latter then being the kind that would then apply to phenomena? (categories, intuition are formal causes which operate on noumenal material -- final cause is... i don't know. the reason there are categories at all?)

Nicely done—there’s not nearly enough Kant content on YouTube, so I’m glad you’re helping to remedy that lack. One question: are you referring to a specific part of the Critique when you say that “the logical relationships among the categories correspond to the causal relationships among the objects”, a claim which you repeat in the subsequent videos. It sounds similar to the so-called “Metaphysical Deduction” of the categories from the forms of (unity in) judgment, but not quite. I guess I’m also not sure what sense of the word “logical” you’re invoking here.

Hi, nice video. Just have a question. Did racionalists really believe in ideas they way Plato concieved the theory of forms? I thought they (Descartes, mostly) believed that innate ideas where just given by God and the rest came from experience. Thanks and good video, again.

I don't see how Kant's metaphysics/epistemology, "transcendental idealism" doesn't slip into "dogmatic idealism", Berkeley's idealism, unless it's by postulating that things-in-themselves (noumena) exist, but that assertion appears to be pure assumption .. how do we know it exists? If we perceive it, then there's some sort of sense perception. If we postulate it through reason, we're back in the "idealism" quadrant. If MS or anyone has the answer, I'm listening..

When we see an object,
it is bcz the object (giver=CAUSE) communicates with our eye (taker=CAUSE).
The quantum (smallest unit) of the communication is the change in an electron of the giver
and an electron in the taker.
The electron changed in the giver is an effect
*the electron changed in the taker is an effect, *
which effect is the cause at a chain of causes and effects,
conducting to the imaginary-inside-brain-effect
called PSYCHE=awareness we can call,
on this occasion, a seen-hood,
for an example space (form) and
time (new forms continually being elicited)
Kind regards from GERMANY.

The organ which fabricates the awareness
from/about matter outside the brain,
it is the brain, *not the mind.*
Why are you still lying?

Or did you already block me?
