My FIL worked for the company who supplies all the commissary items in MI-DOC, and a few federal prisons too in MI. They are anything but expired, and not too horribly priced either.

In my state 3 soups is a dollar and you only pay the store back everything you borrowed plus a soup on the dollar for the overall amount. What also sucks is when you go heavy on items that happen to be out of stock (or the worker forgets to put them in your order, though you do get reimbursed eventually) and don’t know you need to reorder them.

Oh, it looks like a new short has been released. Sweet.

Also very informative.

I've always felt that prison would make an excellent example for economics students. You basically get to see free market capitalism in full swing. Supply and demand, monopolization, everything has a price, multiple types of businesses, etc.

I just image someone walking by seeing this majestic man yelling at his phone about the discount section of a dollar store and being so confused.

Honestly the way they treat prisoners should be heavily criminalized

And for some reason prison food in my opinion only tastes good in prison, I've had to spread a few times out here and didn't really like it. Although when you're stuck in a confined space and forced to eat the nastiest, most bland slop ever, all that stuff on commissary sounds and tastes like a gourmet meal. 😂 I remember making some bomb ass burritos and spreads and the best thing wasn't going to bed hungry 💯

Moral to this story is "DON'T GO TO PRISON "

My mom would always have me help her send commissary items to her ex in prison. Popular item was jalapeño cheese spread and cookies. And the bags of chili they hardly carry. Decent looking stuff

so if you ordered on the right Saturday youd get it the next day!
but if its the wrong Monday..?
you wait 11days!

If there was one thing to buy off commissary it's those damn soups. I've been out for 10 years and I still don't ever want to eat one again.😂
