Having been in jail a few times, it is amazing how simple items you think nothing about while free, can be seen as precious while incarcerated.

Here's a good video idea

"10 most unusual items sold in commissary"
Meaning items that are sold in commissary that you wouldn't think would be sold in prison.

My brother is locked up two states away in federal. We send him money all the time. Also, I don't know if you've ever talked about or knew about this, but a few of us got Google voice numbers locally to where my brother is locked up. So, instead of it being a million dollars a minute, it's like 15c a min for him to call us. Maybe that's some information/tip you can spread around.

There’s just something so endearing about prisoners giving charity to the less well off prisoners that gives me a little more faith in humanity.

Joe, just wanted to say I've never been to jail let alone prison and I am totally intrigued with your channel. Your comedic approuch and story telling skills have made this subject very interesting and keep me coming back for more. Thanks for the entertainment and keep up the great work. A person with your skills has a very bright future 👍👍

Had the good fortune of moving to a pod where my new celly was getting tranferred upstate the following morning. Since you "can't take it with you", I inherited a locker half-full of goodies (tuna pouches, cheetos, coffee, teabags, ramen, ...). That said, my own personal most valued purchases were a plastic drinking cup, a tupperware w/lid, and a deck of cards.

You forgot EAR PLUGS!!! You can get them on most prison commissary and they will be very very useful in getting rest at night and keeping those headaches away!

Joe, I was on a horrible path and O.D. in January of this year. I just want to let you know your life story and channel inspires me everyday and on the 24th of September I'll be heading out to fort benning for basic training. Thank you Joe for helping me through all of this

If the prison has grooming compliance rules, shouldn't all prisoners be provided with the necessary grooming tools?

I did a year strech in county, some of the most important things to me were pillows, I actually had like 8 of them that I used to line my mattress with and actually made a decently comfortable bed. Tshirts/wifebeaters, socks, etc. jail uniforms are scratchy and itchy AF. But I think the #1 MOST IMPORTANT thing I had while locked up, was ear plugs, and they werent even legit ear plugs, I had to make them. The jail I was in didnt sell ear plugs, so I would rip out pieces from trash bags, and then find some kind of stuffing, preferably the material that mats were made out of, cottony stuff. Being an extremely light sleeper, without ear plugs I wouldve went insane... ESPECIALLY after I was moved from medium to minimum, where it was an open pod with 20-30 people. Anything after that is really up to the person, I kept a LOT of ramen noodles around, thats for sure. Chili, HotnSpicy vegetable, and Cajun Shrimp were my favorites.

Unfortunately I know all too well what it's like. My Ex husband was in San Quentin and then off to Folsom and then to another couple prisons. I ALWAYS put $$ on his books and I ALWAYS accepted his calls which put me in the hole for $950. This was back in 98'. He wrote me about 500 letters and in each letter it was mainly about what he ate that day lol. He said San Quentin had the best chicken he ever had, he called it "yard bird". 🤣😂
