He’s in the wrong part of America.

4 glasses of wine here in New Orleans and you’re the on-duty cop.

That’s because it’s California. In Wisconsin, to be called an alcoholic you must have a suspended license with at least 3 DUIs, a failed marriage, and be unemployed. If you have a job and a wife, you’re not drinking too much.

I was working with Italians, got invited to dinner and after 4 glasses of wine with dinner I was singing Italian Opera. I don't even speak Italian.

That's weird because in alot of American shows they are constantly drinking whisky then in the next scene they are driving somewhere

4 glasses of wine here in North Carolina and you're the pilot.

It's 4 glasses of moonshine that will definitely put you in an AA meeting or the back of a squad car 😂

It hasn't always been like that in Cali. 60 years ago, it was much different. It was socially acceptable to be drunk in public. It was even socially acceptable to be hammered. We drank hard.

It really wasn't a good situation.
Because we had very little public transportation, and our cities aren't as densely populated, EVERYBODY drove drunk. Traffic fatalities became almost epidemic. Then we had a period where anti-drunk driving became a political movement with organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) campaign for very stiff penalties for drunk driving. They were very successful.

Today, the pendulum has swung to the complete opposite of that acceptance of public intoxication. There are certain exceptions, like sporting events and bars, but you're right. We don't have much tolerance for drunks.
Cheers 🍻

Judging all of America by an experience in California is like summing up General Motors by taking a 1985 Chevette for a drive.

I hate when someone visits california and just assumes that’s representative of the entire country

4 glasses of wine in Australia, and you're just helping choose your wife's drink and waiting till your pint of beer is ready.

I’ll be that buzzkill: Men in the 19th and early 20th centuries would abandon their families and jobs in order to be drunk 24/7 with such regularity that it became a popular topic to write songs about and caused the US to ban alcohol entirely for a time (which, I know, didn’t work, but the fact that it was even considered a valid idea in the first place should tell you something). We have generational trauma around alcohol and yet, sobriety is still a thing a huge number of people in the US struggle with. So if someone is genuinely concerned about the number of drinks a friend or family member is having, it’s probably a good thing that they’re voicing that concern.
