Thanks for posting this my father passed away fishing a FLW tournament over 20 years ago. You may have known him. It was pretty tragic for me in the family. Definitely be safe out there guys. It’s not worth your life.

Running on GPS in fog is crazy . The driver of the boat should be charged .

Fog and a dumbass running wide open is a problem. And that happens everywhere.

6 or 7 tournaments where anglers were killed in boating accidents. Yeah, some rules need to be laid down. That's unacceptable. This shouldn't happen once. Let alone 6 or 7 times.

I was in the operating room today at UAB hospital in Birmingham when we got the call that a life flight helicopter was in route from smith lake . Life is fleeting and unpredictable . Stay safe always 🤙

If the fog is that bad they need to delay the start..

2 reasons I quit the BFL: 1- "Balls-to-the walls" daredevils 2- Forward facing sonar.

Randy you’ve always been spot on about boating safety, i appreciate everything you’ve said about it today and in the past as well. People do not give boating in general the respect it deserves on the safety aspect .

Thanks Randy for stating facts, I’m from Mobile Al. and fish local tournaments down here and some of these guys are absolutely nuts at blast off! I’ve started waiting and letting them all go before I blast off.

I’ll never forget May 2019 - Lake Erie - large Walleye charter boat on an extremely foggy morning and a bachelor party trip with my buddies.
We were trolling at 1.5mph with planing boards and couldn’t even see them the fog was so dense.
A large yacht boat going 40mph + ran over our planing boards.
Our captain saw it coming on radar and we could even hear it coming, and he took evasive action and it was still a close call.
Anyway, we called coast guard and reported it.

50 yards is no way enough visibility to put your boat on plane.

Tragic but expected when your boat goes faster than your IQ

I was a coangler in an MLF tournament a few years ago on Santee Cooper. The lake was rough. 2-4’ waves on the main lake. My boater decided to try to pass all the other boaters in rough water and traveled well outside the marked boat lane. I used all my strength to keep myself pulled down into my seat. We both almost flew out the boat a dozen times on our way to the first spot. Between his erratic driving clearly proving he didn’t know how to drive a boat and front ending me all day long. Speeding away when I got bit on several occasions just to spin around and throw at the same spot to try and catch the fish that swiped at my swim bait. He was from lake Norman and I was on my home lake that I fish every weekend and prefished days prior to this tournament. He wouldn’t take any advice from me all day. He kept throwing in inches of water all day even after I pleaded with him to push out a little deeper on channel swing banks leading to flats. Long story short it was a miserable day. He front ended me all day at times putting me in between trees and literally on the bank so I couldn’t cast. He complained if I casted forward of the back deck even tho the tournament director specifically clarified this was not the case. I get common courtesy when fishing tournaments but these boaters also need courtesy for the coanglers. At the end of the day I had four keepers to his zero because I would bomb cast to deeper water when given the chance. I could’ve caught more but every time I would get a bite he would spin the boat to catch the fish that bit me or to fish the spot I just caught one. I placed 7th, he skunked. Then after I weighed my fish he held my gear hostage until I paid him $50 for gas which intended to do anyway until he demanded it in return for my own gear. I gave him $50, thanked him for taking me out as this was my first ever tournament and wished him luck. Because of this experience I will probably never fish as a coangler again. I took time off of work to prefish, paid the membership and tournament fees, woke up 3am to get to the lake just like he did but i was treated like a second class citizen by this guy. It’s truly sad because the places, pattern, and depth I was recommending all day is where 3 of the top 5 boaters fished and the number one coangler fished..

I see MLF getting sued in this. Why not delay the start if fog reported. How much time would it take for an offical to go out and see conditions and make the call.

I fished a tournament on Conroe years back when two competitor boats hit each other. It was a fucking horrific scene, let me tell you! People who run in fog like their GPS is Radar is beyond stupid

There is a three second delay between boat and Satellite and back to boat . At 60 mph the boat is moving at 100 feet per second . So at three seconds you have covered the length of a football field in fog that you have no clue of where you are going . That's how boats drive up in the woods in fog .

Ego is ridiculous in tournament fishing. Most people now days have zero respect for others.

i appreciate you always emphasizing boat safety you’re very consistent with that

Photos look like bass boat went right through the guide boat. One victim was a town council member. If that was doing 50-60mph gross negligence charges should be filed
