A BETTER LOOK at the upcoming TMNT REMASTERED Figures from Playmates Toys!

Recently Playmates Toys revealed a new upcoming line of articulated, vintage-style TMNT action figures for the 40th Anniversary. Called TMNT REMASTERED, the only image available when revealed was a lower quality photo of an advertisement that was on display at a trade show.

So I reached out to Playmates Toys asking for a higher quality image of the new figures, and asked a few questions about this new line. Playmates Toys finally responded and provided a new image and a few new details. So let's go over it all!

I've never seen a company snatch defeat from the jaws of victory quite this badly.

Playmates all you had to do was release them just like the originals without flashy unneeded detail.

These went from "I hope they do them all" to "I don't need these at all" in one hi-res image.

With that texturing... they saved me $50

the incompetence on display is truly amazing
Among other things, they haven't fixed the color errors yet

Get rid of the divots in the skin, and make it pinless.

Just release the entire retro TMNT toy line with modern articulation and we will be happy!

I actually really like the texture! I don’t collect too much TMNT but I enjoy turtle figures that are different from the original line. I’ll get these for sure!

Oh no, no, that strawberry skin texture is just so wrong. Playmates almost had it. Really hoping the final product is more vintage like and smooth and these are just early renders.

I feel like the textures were only added to distinct themselves from the still rereleased 80's ones, and weren't really necessary.

Damn the texture looks horrible for real. Could you contact them and tell them that the collectors would prefer smoother skin? It feels like they had a money making machine at hand but they managed to screw it up big time xD. Thanks for covering these up so passionately Dan

In fairness, frogs typically have smooth wet skin while turtles have dry, scaly skin. The sort of warty/bumpy look here is reminiscent of a toad or a newt. Regardless, this doesn’t feel true to the TMNT design.

Somehow, Playmates always seem to be able to screw up their TMNT figures.

I love the figures but feel they could pull the skin textures down about 30%. Great price though

Thanks for the update.

Ugh...man that texture for the skin was a choice....

I am digging these figures and do hope they do more. Yes the og 1988 ones did have smooth skin but these are giving off the Movie Star Turtles vibe with the texture. As for the price point $12.99 wow i love that just hope my walmart gets them in we still have not had any retro TMNT stuff in my local walmart.

I'm actually glad the skin texture turns me off, cause the limited articulation and oversized weapons were my initial deal-breakers. Foot swivels instead of ankle rockers is so lame.

Thank you for keeping on top of
Playmates, Dan!

The texture isn't like the old ones, but it is more like actual turtles. I have no problem with the textured skin. The colors look right, and if the scale is right and the accessories are close enough, I'll probably snag a set at that price point.

I hope that every shop gets these figures and I hope that playmats toys release all of the main characters not just the turtles.
