Value Driven Planning and Reviewing the Year (Don't Set Goals!)

Goals are great for a couple weeks, but once you've hit them, there isn't a lot of drive left to keep at a new process or skill. There needs to be a solid "Why?" behind each goal... without a "why?" it's easy to fall into the trap of ticking items of an externally derived list.

Here I go through my process of value-driven planning, in a document I simply call my "Life Values". It's something I review and modify once or twice a year. By linking my milestones (goals) to the personal value I am looking to embody, everything seems to fall into place without having to put in a ton of effort.

My review and update always seems at the end of the year when I reflect on where I am and what I've done. I recently started incorporating my year-end review into the value planning, so I'll showcase how I use that review to support developing and updating the value plan for next year.
