Another female disco group you should check out is Taste of Honey, 'Boogie Oogie Oogie'. The singers also played their own bass and guitar. also Amii Stewart's 'Knock On Wood.'

Cheryl Lynn is my girl. A very UNDERRATED soul/funk singer. I love her voice and her range.

One of the very best songs from the Disco craze era. This and Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way" were two great Disco songs that were actually NOT done by the Bee Gees or Donna Summer :)

She was discovered on the 70's game show The Gong Show. She performed Joe Cockers You Are So Beautiful. They were so impressed by her that she received a perfect score and went on to record this song and Star Love which you MUST react to! She hits some amazing notes in that one!
Great song!

Cheryl Lynn has another great song "Encore" and did a great song with Toto called "Georgy Porgy" you got to hear. Other future Female Fridays staying with 70's grooves would be A Taste of Honey "Boogie Oogie Oogie", Andrea True Connection "More, More, More" and Evelyn "Champagne" King with "Shame" and her 80's groove "Love Come Down". Please revisit Chaka Khan and this time with Rufus and their songs "Tell Me Something Good', "Sweet Thing", "Do You Love What You Feel", "Once You Get Started" and "What Cha Gonna Do For Me". Rufus featuring Chaka Khan are so great. Thanks what a great reaction as always. I also saw Patrice Rushen "Forget Me Nots" mentioned here and other times. I mentioned her before, as well. Yes she is an underrated musical prodigy and give a thumbs up to many of her songs.

Just 1979 alone had a year full of amazing songs like this. You've reacted to a lot of them. My next suggestion is "Bad Girls" by Donna Summer. I actually wanted you to react to the "Hot Stuff / Bad Girls" 2-for-1, just like on the album. Those two songs were like siamese twins who were separated as singles. Not only were they the same exact tempo, they were recorded as one extra long song. They were both huge #1 hits, and both in the top 3 at the same time (One about to drop, the other about to take over #1). You already reacted to "Hot Stuff, " so it's time to add "Bad Girls." You won't be disappointed!!!

Fun Fact; She was a contestant on The Gong Show. She didn't win but it got her a record deal, so maybe she did win.

Cheryl Lynn co-wrote this song with David Paich (keyboard player from Toto) and David Foster (legendary producer). The Davids were busy with projects with Michael Jackson and Earth, Wind and Fire at the same time that they worked with Cheryl. They wouldn't have given her the time unless they thought she was as good as those other artists. David Foster put out a concert DVD a few years ago called Hitman. In that concert, Cheryl Lynn performed this song. She may be older, but she had all her energy and her voice was as good as ever!

This was a major hit in the late seventies disco era! It takes me right back to the skating rink as a pre-teen! This song always makes me happy! ❤❤

That is the real difference between the music then and now. Our music was memorable and sung by great artists. Today's music is okay and sung by okay artists. No, you don't have a Tina, Tina Marie, Chaka, Luther, Al Green, Bee Gees, Prince, or MJ. Our guys had to have talent; the auto tune was not available yet. Most of our songs sounded like they had a meaning and made you feel something. The talent was not limited to any one genre and the greats crossed over at will: from country to r & b to rock to easy listening to jazz to gospel and back. Lionel Richie crossed all of those genres himself alone, but he was not the exception he was part of the rule. Think about the Bee Gees...how many sounds have you heard them produce? You have heard Whitney's R & B, but have you heard her gospel? Talent, I guess is the real difference. Today's artists don't need a great song as well as natural talent. And that's why I love old-school jams. You get great songs and natural talent.

Cheryl Lynn! If anyone's paid her dues in the music biz, it's her. She's gotten to work with some of the biggest names in music, like Chaka Khan, Luther Vandross, Richard Marx, Thelma Houston, and... believe it or not... TOTO! (If you want to hear Cheryl and Toto together, check out "Georgy Porgy". Cheryl also had hits with "Shake It Up Tonight", "Encore", and "If This World Were Mine" (with Luther Vandross). Thanks for reacting! And to your point about there being very little "timeless" music out now - while it's tough to gauge any song's timelessness when it's new, I'd argue that there is a LOT of really, really good music out now. The problem is, with so much music out there, sometimes you have to dig really hard, probe the deepest corners of YouTube, to find it. Most of the new stuff I listen to now are artists that have tens or hundreds of THOUSANDS of views, not millions and millions. Others may disagree, but that's my humble opinion.

You gotta shake your thang when this song comes on! 🕺Please check out Patrice Rushen "Forget Me Nots" for another funky fun tune!! "The Three Degrees" have a similar sound. I also suggest Sister Sledge, Chic & The Pointer Sisters! Keep Smiling!! 🙂
