This reminds me of my childhood. During Christmas, they would show the movie Sisi the young empress and I was obsessed with it. Though the tone was less serious and more fairytale-like.

The original Sisi Trilogy starring Romy Schneider and her guest appearance in Ludwig have remained a masterpiece over 50yrs and my all time favorite movies on her. But they focused on early years. They omitted crucial events of her later life like the crown prince’s suicide which I would like to see featured in the new series. I hope they make Sissi’s series like the crown.

I hope, one day there will be movie about Sissi - her life style in her 40s - drugs, tatoos, sea cruising, expensive villas, or sport - she was one of best horse riders in Europe. She was living same life as some rich people do now in 21st century. But maybe that would be not so romantic and more boring 🤔.

She meets Franz, a multi-layered ruler with fractures who played a major role in shaping modern European history. Against the backdrop of jealousy, intrigue and power struggles behind the scenes of the Habsburg court and the emerging question of freedom of the people, the audience is taken into a glittering illusory world in which young Sisi must fight for her place at court as well as for the right not only to be the figurehead of an ailing empire.

Nothing beats Elisabeth das musical. It seems like in every Sisi show they played up the romance between her and FJ. And they make sisi way more "likable" while there should be more complexity to her character.
