Love these videos about software culture.
Thanks Aaron.

Man, most of this very true and relatable.
You made an interesting point on whether or not programmers are introverts that like programming or if people who program become introverted.

Programmers have egos:

C++ programmers entered the chat.

That survey seems wrong? When I look for the stack overflow survey, the most recent one (2020), shows that about 75% of developers completed atleast a BA.

"Living in the world of logic does do something to your brain. *Small Talk* starts to become less appealing..."
Why Aaron? It's a really neat little OO language :)

I'll see myself out.

I liked how when it hit 100% it started to say "ERROR" but then the scene cut.

@3:05 I worked at a place as a contractor and the boss would sit there watch you code. His desk was setup so he could look over at your screen at any time. He had a tough time getting good workers and had a crappy product.

Just to point out if you are a smug/arrogant developer because "you make the actual app":
1) Doesn't matter if it's the greatest app ever, your marketing team still need to get attention for it.
2) Doesn't matter if it's the greatest app ever, you still need your sales team to sell it or else no one, including you, gets paid.
3) Doesn't matter if it's the greatest app ever, you need a project manager to shield you from the customer ranting so you can focus on writing code.
4) Doesn't matter if it's the greatest app ever, you need a good legal and finance team to make sure you don't get ripped off by customers.

It might only take one developer to write an app, but it takes a village to make it something that can be sold and brings in money. If the tech industry was just made up of engineers, most of them would be flat broke and you'd make more money stacking shelves at Walmart. And I say that as an engineer.

Hey Aaron, I've got a question for you. I've known several developers who were part of a team, but only superficially... because they always worked on their own projects and only communicated with one person (their manager) about what they were doing. So they managed to bypass the whole "everyone needs to be able to work with other people" requirement! Definitely a fit with the unsociable and disagreeable stereotypes. Are these types of developers a dying breed in modern workplaces? Or are they surviving and thriving?

@5.55 "There are objective better or worse solutions for everything" -> sure, but objective function can get a little tricky when you consider cost and long term maintainability of code.

Regarding developers being disagreeable and arrogant, people like to shit on Stack Overflow, but it's a huge improvements over old school forums where it was almost a rite of passage to have someone more experienced talk down to you under the assumption that you didn't read the 13124341 page reference manual of whatever you were asking about. In StackOverflow people are _incredibly_ polite and to the point. Having that question you didn't look up before asking be marked as duplicate is much better than hearing some guy you need help from trying to imply you're lazy or illiterate for not RTFM'ing.

How does a programmer respond, if you ask: "Are you a programmer?"

true

Great content! The sound level was all over the place, though. The sound was better towards the end, when you had the mic in a fixed position.

I love your new Aaron Jack logo!
I've been saying for years that college is a bad path for programmers. I've hired 40 programmers of which only a few had CS degrees. The self-taught were overall better. Thanks for the info that only 34% of employed developers have CS degrees. Fascinating.
