Customer had decided to optimize and cut costs, so every department got a price tag and and a yield tag attached. Marketing obviously got raises. Dev was reduced to those working on new products. Ops was almost completely thrown out. Worked great. For a few weeks.

Outcome is obvious, just so much for the visibility of DevOps work.

Basically ops is like priests in RPGs.

He often told me how to do my DevOps job the backend way because he believed it’s the right way to do thing. I thought I was doing devops the wrong way sometimes because of him. 2 seconds... 2 whole seconds... Excuse me but I did build an entire API in rust so that concurrent requests take the least amount of time possible, as the performance of JS API was slow by 30ms so it was quite noticeable on the front-end. Not that front-end isn't engineering, building a cool looking site with canvas animations such as gravity based bouncing ball is really cool.
