Just always check if the person’s photos, and never not ask for extra functionality testing/proof. If someone’s offering a 1660S for $30 and the only photo is a stock image, maybe don’t take it. Scored a BNIB B550 for $40, 32GB of G.SKILL DDR4 3200MHz for $40, and 5600G for $60. Stuff is wild.

My 970, 2060, and recently 3080, have all been used and are in great shape. Going used has saved me hundreds of dollars over the years. I will continue to buy used in the future at least until a solid price to performance card is worth it at new

I partly agree with both of you. Some parts are fine to buy used, others are an absolute no go, such as one of the parts you mentioned as a possible used deal.

Here is what I would consider absolute no-gos to buy used:
PSU (Must be the most reliable part in youe computer, if this one is faulty, you risk destroying your other components)
Motherboard (Simply too fragile, it is incredibly easy to accidentally break one. DoA Motherboards aren't too rare unfortunately, and that is bought new, with used it's even more common)

Here are some parts that I would buy used and even recommend to do so:
CPU (Very Good or Like New condition only, isn't too fragile of a part, just make sure that no pins are bent, shall it be AM4 for example)
GPU (Good, Very Good, and Like New condition. Some GPUs can take one hell of a beating, but still make sure it's not damaged)
Storage (Specifically SSDs. SSDs are pretty reliable and if taken care of, will last decades),
RAM (Similar to the SSDs, but a little more fragile. But pretty much just ensure it works, and then there shouldn't be many issues.)
Cases (This one was obvious. Just make sure it's not bent, and the screws aren't stripped)
WiFi Adapters (These are generally fine, just ensure they are in good condition, then there's not much that can go wrong)

Anything not listed is either pretty neutral, or I simply forgot.

I’ve bought on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. They’re fine, it’s not like you’re getting scammed on every purchase lol. I’ve bought a total of like 40 components (I resell gaming pcs) and only 3 of them were broken (broken psu, dead gtx 750 ti, dead i5-7500). Total lost? $100. Total saved from buying new? Easily over $2000

True, i built 6 rigs in the past 2 years for friends and my family. SSD & RAMs were cheaper new, the rest, I've gotten in good condition and with warranty mostly. easily save 50% off retail on a build..

The CPU/motherboard combos are goats, I found a 13th gen i5 with motherboard for less than if I bought them separately new AND used. No problems so far and it's been a month.

As the OP you quoted stated, you're risking getting faulty components with no warranty. If you get a GPU $100 cheaper than new thats a cool idea, till you get it and it's broken and you not only didn't save anything, you also have to buy another GPU and the two used GPUs cost you more than a new one from a reputable store.

I actually usually find amazing deals for pc fans like just the other day I found a deal for 3 rgb Corsair fans for $12 which usually go around $115

I would agree but motherboard is risky since it one of the components that is more susceptible to fail later on the build plus if you buy brand new you still get warranty.

You are kinda right, but research is everything, my current setup of 12400f, zpg 8*2 3600, msi z690-p and palit 3080 and Corsair RM850X cost me around 840 usd all of which (except the ram) was used

In Australia a 3080 new goes for around $1400, in the used market it's at least half that.

I’m with the comment on this one. Too many times i’ve gotten faulty parts or people trying to scam me. Only new parts for me nowadays

I know this is oversimplifying it but if the component works when you get your hands on it it will continue to work. I always find it strange how technology doesn't "wear out" the same way as everything else.

I got an open box 6900 XT for $650 USD from Micro Center when new ones were still in the $900 area, best deal I’ve got in a while

I picked up a used 3060ti from eBay a couple weeks ago. It stopped working a few days ago. Used parts are a gamble unless you can authenticate that they weren't used for crypto mining. Ymmv.
