10-Minute Neuroscience: Neurons

preview_player
Показать описание
In this video, I cover all of the main parts of a neuron including the dendrites, cell body (soma), axon hillock, axon, and axon terminals (synaptic boutons). I describe how a signal travels from the dendrites of a neuron, down the axon, and to the axon terminals to communicate with another neuron through the release of neurotransmitters. I also describe ways of categorizing neurons based on structure (i.e., multipolar, bipolar, unipolar, and pseudo-unipolar) and function (i.e., motor, sensory, and interneurons).

Key points:
00:00 General introduction to neurons
1:17 How neurons communicate
2:12 Parts of a neuron
7:00 Classifying neurons based on structure
8:17 Classifying neurons based on function

Thank you, Marc. This was a useful introduction.

It required me to pause, rewind a lot, and I'm enjoying the process of listening

I just discovered your channel and I'm really happy I did. Especially as a student with English as a second language, your videos help me understand what everything is, before I move onto lectures and Power Points which aren't really for beginners in this area. Also its funny the way the power of your voice changes whenever you turn your head.

You make this stuff so much easier to understand. You should write a book kinda like the “for Dummies” books, but you could call it “Neurons for Morons.” This moron would purchase it. 🤣. Great video!
