In this video I'm gonna go over a few reasons why I don't think you should buy the new Ford expedition it was in for its 1st oil change today and there were several issues that I notice right off the batt that seemed very concerning on this ford eco boost 3.5l

So that's it? And you call yourself a mechanic? Well, I'm an Engineer and I just bought my 2019 Expedition and completely happy with mine. Especially knowing that this truck is technically a stoplight sleeper that can go 0-60 in 6 seconds!

You have no idea what you're talking about. My 2018 Expy Platinum Max has 120k miles on it and the only issue I've had an alternator replacement. It's a great truck.

Yeah... My bad for thinking this would be a truly informative video based on facts. I was really looking for good info as why 2018 was a bad idea. I love my 2017 Expo EL and looking to upgrade to 2018 for the 10 speed and new interior/exterior. This engine has been in the market for nearly a decade... if it’s making any unusual noises at 6K then probably needs to see a dealer. Otherwise, with proper maintenance, this engine is very reliable.

Sounds normal to me, I have the same exact truck and love it, 44k later not one problem.

And im gonna go out and buy another one, had a 2014 king ranch expy and the center console had a short in it and the truck burned up, insurance company totalled it. After having 4 suburbans over the years and 6 transmission replacements in them i switched to expeditions, best move a guy could make. Done with gm. Even tho i had a vehicle fire in mine i loved that thing, took it offroad to places you wouldnt think it would go but it did, never got stuck. Anyway yeah im getting a new one and wouldnt even consider looking at anything other than Ford.

Everyone has different opinion and feeling, so I respect the presenter of the video to share his comments with the others. However, it is way different than I am feeling about my 2018 Expedition, so I hope to leave my honest notes (I am not working for Ford nor auto industry). To me, it is the best SUV, I will never ever want to switch to any other. The engine noise is almost non-noticeable inside the cabin with window closed. Even with window open, it is sufficiently quiet. In fact, at my first test drive, I could not tell if the motor was running or not without looking at the rev. meter. (I may have bias on this point, as my previous car was Chevy Astro 2000, I drove it for 18 years and it shakes a lot in the last 5 years or so.) Its 10 speed transmission is very smooth, too, I cannot feel any shift shocks at all. This truck makes driving so fun (especially at Sports mode). Interior design and quality is very good for me, too, so every time I got on it, I feel so happy, the feeling is still the same since day 1. If you are ever interested in the truth of this vehicle, please go to your local Ford dealer and ask for a test drive, then you will find out yourself. One small advice - I am driving Limited 4WD with best options (including 360 deg camera, B&O sound system, and motorized running board). Once I had a chance to drive a rental Expedition, same year and engine / transmission but XLT basic grade with no options. Since I was very accustomed to mine, I felt very different - looking at different design cluster panel and other details made me not excited. It is an expensive car to invest your hard-earning money. So, considering your budget and doing test drive the exact trim grade model you can go for and then decide. If you can afford extra budget, Limited with the highest option is my recommendation, in my opinion it is almost the same as Platinum with $10K or more less. Others reported XLT's headlights are too dim, but you cannot replace them with LED headlights, so that is one concern to choose XLT 2018-19 (may be same for 2020). Platinum has 400 hp vs. Limited / XHL 375 hp which I do not think much of a difference, as 375 hp is powerful enough for me (I do not do towing, mostly city driving). There is one thing I am not happy about it is rusty drive shaft in such an expensive vehicle. I may hire someone to removing rust and put paint on it. Other than that, I am completely satisfied with my purchase, and thank Ford engineers and designers did great job!

Well that's a good thing that the catch can has no oil in it. That means the engine isn't burning oil or the PCV/CCV is pulling oil out of the crankcase and throwing it back into the intake. As for the sounds DFI motors (this one is both DFI and PFI) are a tad louder though I'm not sure which injectors are firing when the vehicle is idling.

LOL are you even a mechanic? This was an entirely useless video. The 3.5 EB motor is used in the F-150 / Raptor, Expedition, Taurus SHO, and Ford GT. It has built a name for itself as well as the Coyote. Gen1 had a chain stretch issue because of the single design, and the Gen2 went to a two chain and resolved the problem, but inherited a cam phaser issue. At least with the Gen2 you can hear if there is a problem. There is nothing wrong with the 3.5 in this video LOL. It's a twin turbo and you are likely hearing the downpipe exchange or turbos themselves. I can't believe you have nearly 24k subscribers.

I completely agree. I have a 2018 expedition and it has the rattle the mechanic is talking about. It sounds like a timing chain issue, but it's the eco boost. My mechanic told me there is no fix for it. I also have an issue where it feels like it's slipping out of gear on slopes.

I have one, and love it My first EXPY was a 1997, and this is my fourth. It is the best yet. Quiet, good mileage (hwy), fast, cold air, fabulous sound system with surround, omg what's not to like. Reliable so far as were my other 3. My 130 # Labrador, likes the back side too. I'd suggest you drive one, but make sure you want a big=ass SUV, as this is BIG

That sound was more than likely the cam phaser which was fixed on a recall. I have a 2015 expedition approaching 175, 000 and a 2018 with 115, 000. Most people who say Fords will not last do not take care of their vehicles properly. I’ll probably grab a low mileage 2021 Expedition next year. It’s the best large SUV by far.

You're probably one of those "you need a whole new fuel pump" kinda guys when it's really just a spark plug huh

"I have a 2021 Ford Expedition Max Limited with 145, 000 miles on it. It's been running perfectly, with only basic maintenance needed so far. However, it seems that I'll need to change the transmission soon."

I hear some background noise from the shop. What did you want it to sound like, , , , an electric motor? I have no problem with Ford.

Ppl who say the explorer and expedition don’t last are crazy. I had a 1997 explorer that 290, 000 when I wreaked it. I have a 2008 expedition XLT 5.4 with 224, 000 and on both minor work. Alternator (both) Starter (Exped), upper and lower control arms and sway bar. And window motor. Yeah some other minor things but I’m trucking.

Change the damn oil every 3, 000 miles to keep your motor healthy

After 90, 000 miles now the cam phaser issue came up. At the shop for a 3, 000 dollar cam phaser replacement. But still, other than that, I love my '18 Expy.
