Cisco VPN problems happen in Win10 and in Win8.1 -- Fixing them should be easy so do these three steps in order:

(a) Re-install the Cisco software to make sure you are running latest version.

(b) Set the program to Compatibility mode for WIN7 (or WIN8) - in 90% of problems THIS FIXES THE VPN FAILURE :)

...if that doesnt work then try this
(c) Use REGEDIT to modify HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings and add a new key of GlobalUserOffline with a value of '1'

I'm using Windows 8, no idea which version. And this tutorial actually worked. Usually when I watch tutorial vids on youtube they don't help at all.

Now I can use my laptop at work again, yay! Thanks for the upload. You earned a like, spend it wisely.

For those who encountered this issue after updating Windows 8.1 (mine on 11 February 2015), kindly try using steps below :

1. Close the Cisco AnyConnect Window and the taskbar mini-icon
2. Right click vpnui.exe in the “Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client” folder. (I have it in “C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client\”
3. Choose Troubleshoot compatibility.
4. Choose “Try recommended settings”.
5. The wizard suggests Windows 8 compatibility.
6. Click “Test Program”.  This will open the program.
7. Test VPN
8. Close troubleshooting wizard

Hope this'll help.

I faced the same problem on Windows 8.1 after the system got updated last night. I tried the fix mentioned in the video but that did not work for me. Then I went to the directory where Cisco Mobility Client is installed, right-clicked on vpnui.exe and clicked on "Troubleshoot Compatibility". Compatibility mode was changed to "Windows 8" and after I tested the program, it worked!!
(P.S. I still have those settings in the Registry. I did not remove them.)

For those who still have windows 8 and are trying to solve this problem after a recent update, I followed the steps other's suggested below, but with some changes:

0. Make sure the Cisco client is closed.
1. Right click VPNUI in the Cisco install folder. (I have it in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco\Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client\"
2. Choose Troubleshoot compatibility.
3. When prompted choose troubleshoot program, then "worked in earlier versions" then select windows 8 or 7. 7 worked for me.
4. then test the program. it will open up cisco. then it should work. if so click next.
5. When prompted, save your settings. happy vpn.

Thank you all!!! If all fails after "trying" the steps, re-start your Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Agent service! Works perfect!

This worked great for previous preview build but now with the new 9926, I am unable to connect. I get the following error... "The VPN client driver encountered an error. Please restart your computer or device, then try again." Re-starting does not fix. I did have to change the value after this update since it reset to 0, but resetting it to 1 or 2 did not fix the issue. Looking forward to a fix, else I'll have to roll back on version. Fortunately this new preview build has that "Window Rollback" option upon start up.

I tried this and it did not work. However, I was convinced that this solution made sense and "should" work. If you try this solution and it does not work immediately, try going into you services (services.msc) from the run prompt, and restart your Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Agent service and then try to establish your VPN connection again. Hope this helps someone in need.

Hey Nick, whenever I try to use the CISCO vpn, I get the following error, "Connection attempt has timed out. Please check your internet connection." Do you have a solution for this as well?

Hello! I tried this registry add and it still happens to not work. I've rebooted, tried again  (didn't work) and reinstalled Cisco AnyConnect client back on the machine (didn't work).

Do you have any suggestions on what could be the problem? What version are you using for the Cisco AnyConnect client?
