In this video Jessica Conrad, a consultant to the Garfield Foundation, explains that there are no predetermined set of steps that enable us to achieve a certain outcome in a complex system. However, although system behavior can’t be predicted in advanced, leaders can apply patterns and principles based on past observations by using the Cynefin framework.

Developed by Welsh business consultant David Snowden in 1999, the Cynefin (“habitat”) framework is a typology of social systems. Do Big Good’s evidence-based and adaptive approach to social impact is based on the belief that social change is complex and requires probing (experimentation) to identify pathways to success.
