Lucifer lives in LA, owns a nightclub and helps a detective solving crimes. Everybody knows that.

It's so hard to find scholarly and non-biased resources on demonology on the internet without pouring through every religious text that mentions them. I really would love to see more of this in the future keep it up!

As someone raised in a small, Evangelical community who saw their every belief as immutable and eternal, it is soooo refreshing to hear religion discussed in such a mature and thoughtful way. It’s also just more fun and interesting! Thanks for a great video.

It makes SO MUCH SENSE that Satan was originally a lawyer

As a decidedly irreligious person, I find the practice, concepts, and history of religion extremely fascinating. Thank you so much for these videos that you put out!

I agree with Calvin's tiger, Hobbes, who says that "Humans are sufficiently capable of doing evil without any need of supernatural help."

I’m a staunch atheist but the history/philosophy and metaphorical mythology/stories of religion fascinates me. Cool channel so far mate. Keep it up.

I love how, in the book of Job (Jobe like “robe”), God and Satan speak to each other in a casual manner like
“Hello Satan. What are you doing?”
“Hello God. I’ve been around the world, walking here and there.”
😆
Wow. They really do sound like absolute enemies. 🤣

Dude, straight explanation without cute snark or sarcasm or any pandering to trendy politics? A message at the end to explain how to understand history vs empirical sciences? No fancy music or huge budget graphics? Subbed forever.

im so glad I found this page, not directly denouncing or promoting any one religion but simply putting into fact the timeline and beliefs of each religion

As a person struggling with my beliefs, THANK YOU for these insightful videos. I'm on a spiritual journey, and I can't just accept everything like I did as a child in Sunday school. Following religion causes major life changes and I'm never blindly going to follow something bc it's what my parents\church taught me

As Phd in History (and having within my interests issues related with the history and sociology of religion) I have to say I loved this video, and especially how you explain what it means to think historically. Great job. This video deserves to be used in the classroom.

I was expecting this video to be shrouded in theology and theodicy. But to see it grounded in archeology and history is fantastic.

I like how your videos explain religion without ridiculing it, as so many others do.

So the satan was what we might call the “devil’s advocate”

So. Much. Irony.

Having studied the "Bible"in the original Hebrew I have, perhaps, a different view. I was taught that the word Shatan is related to the word Shala or sheta, both meaning "question" or "inquiry". Hashatan as written in Jobe, and other writings means adversary but in the context of "questioner". Thus hashatan was the role given to the individual who job is to question God's choices. As such it served as the Conscience of god.

One of the most freeing steps for me as a Christian was when I came to understand that "the devil & demons" were not literal beings bent on my eternal doom and misery. I came to this through the writings of Joseph Priestley, Hugh Farmer, Theophilus Lindsey, and other dissenting Unitarians and ministers of England during the 17th-19th centuries.
