This is also mentioned in Surah Sad: 75-85. After pondering on this: one comes to know that Iblis gets permission & power from Allah(swt) to try and take us off of the Straight Path. So we should always be mindful that all power is from Allah(swt).

I always thought iblis was an angel. But angels didn't have the soul to defy god. Yet iblis did. This was going through my mind for last few months. Thanks for clarifying that he was actually a jinn. Now it makes perfect sense

I love how no matter what religion, Satan is somehow both really immature in his initial defiance and dishearteningly correct about many humans being selfish and ungrateful for their blessings.
I’m not Muslim, but I do really like seeing different belief systems and how they’ve developed and evolved. Satan is especially fascinating to me because he’s as flawed as we are and still thinks he’s better than us. What a tool.

Iblis is jinn.. Because logic says that angels don't have free will. If he was a angel he would have prostrated to Adam as and jinns have free will..
