RECREATIONAL DRONE LAWS | QUICK Guide to Lawful Flying

The government requires the following in order to safely and legally fly a drone for recreational purposes:

- Keep your drone within the visual line of sight or use a visual observer who is co-located (physically next to) and in direct communication with you.
- Give way to and do not interfere with manned aircraft.
- Fly at or below 400' in controlled airspace (Class B, C, D, and E) only with prior authorization by using LAANC or Drone Zone.
- Fly at or below 400 feet in Class G (uncontrolled) airspace.
Note: Flying drones in certain airspace is not allowed. Classes of airspace and flying restrictions can be found on our B4UFLY app or the UAS Facility Maps webpage.
- Take The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) and carry proof of test passage.
- Have a current registration, mark (PDF) your drones on the outside with the registration number, and carry proof of registration with you.
- Do not operate your drone in a dangerous manner. For example:
- Do not interfere with emergency response or law enforcement activities.
- Do not fly under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Individuals violating any of these rules, and/or operating in a dangerous manner, may be subject to FAA enforcement action.

Except I don't need permission to fly over private property or even over no drone zones. The only agency in the United States that can legally regulate where drones fly is the FAA. Cities can have no drone zones, but those only regulate where a drone can take off or land. If I want to fly over a farmers field or a bunch of houses on a city block I don't need to ask anybody first.

As far as national parks go, as I understand the law, you cannot take off or land inside a national park but they cannot enforce anything in the air only on the ground so long as you take off and land outside the national park, you can fly over the national park and still be in compliance. Is that still correct?

Regardless of weight you need a Trust cert. to fly a drone.

Thanks - I am thinking of getting the small DJI drone - the mini? Do I need to register this? I want a drone but cannot be bothered doing the test either

Had a quick question on commercial use.. If i am creating content for my own YouTube channel and its not yet monetized, would that be considered commercial use? If my channel later becomes monetized, would it be considered commercial content after that and could i get in to trouble with having the content on my channel? or could i just demonetize that particular video to get around it?

My drone weighs 595 g and I used for recreational activities only. Do I need to register my drone because it weighs more than 250 g if I am using only for recreational activities?
Also, from where we can take authorisation to fly drone, in some areas it will ask for the authorisations and i have no idea from where we need to get it?
