How was Gladiator II? No spoilers ⚔️

I watched Gladiator II, rest assured.

The story takes place about 20 years after the first film, and as expected, it brings a much stronger production. The Colosseum, the arena, and Rome itself are all portrayed on a grander scale.

But outside of production, this film doesn’t quite compete with the first, nor does it try to. It feels more like a 2024 remake of Gladiator.

The storyline mirrors the first, with Paul Mescal’s character following a path nearly identical to Russell Crowe’s, giving the film a nostalgic vibe. The nods to the first film are brilliant, it’s almost like Ridley Scott’s tribute to his own work.

Even those who don’t remember or haven’t seen the first movie will enjoy this in theaters. It’s definitely a cinematic experience and one of the best films of the year.

I thought the movie was great. It can never compare to the original and I was sceptical going in. However i was surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie. Don't go in thinking it can be as good as the original but enjoy it for what it is. A very entertaining movie with great action bits and a plot that honors the first movie without being the exact same.

It actually takes place 16 years after Maximus’s death, my opinion this is one of my favourite movies along with Gladiator 1 but still close to 20 years after the first Gladiator movie.

I give it a 6.5… fight scenes were solid, I thought the acting was shaky throughout which made the plot come off as a bit corny, good plot idea but felt the execution could have been better. The ending felt abrupt and a bit of a buzzkill… glad I saw it but wouldn’t necessarily recommend
