The other side of the portal was the last episode... that's why Fiddleford was so traumatized. The final scene will be us looking into the portal, looking at ourselves crying over the show being over.

I think every time someone goes through the portal, their destination is different. If McGucket saw the kind of place Bill likes to hang out and basically lost it afterwards, I don't think Ford would be as stable as he seems after thirty years in there. There's also the clipboard and mug that flew into the portal and ended up in Rick & Morty. Stan probably did some rewiring with the portal so that it would only access the dimension Ford was in, as in "Scary-oke", we see that machine with the x's next to the coordinates showing which dimensions he is not in. Whatever dimension Ford ended up in must have been quite dangerous, but also had a lot of weapons, like the glove thing and the infinity-sided die. Sounds like a cool place

Fun fact: the journal sais that after Stanford got sucked into the portal, he was hovering before Bill and bill said “Looks who decided to pay me a visit! Wanna play a game of intergalactic chess? This time, your the bait!” And he did a manhunt on Ford

What really surprises me is that Ford survived in the portal for 30 years when Fiddleford could only survive in the portal for maybe less than 10 seconds.
That really means something.

My theory behind the portal (pun... I think?) Is that when for stepped inside he saw his own paradise. (like Mabel's bubble). That's how he got that cool glove (Ford loves sciency things) and that's also doesn't want to tell the family. Everyone has been thinking it would be a world of pain and destruction and maybe you're half right. Maybe Ford went into his special bubble that is inside a world of destruction and havoc when Mcgucket looked inside he went mad because he saw the destruction side of that world. When Ford stepped out after thirty years he didn't seem any where near as phased! This is because Ford went into his bubble instead of the world of pain and destruction! This would explain that shot that we saw of him looking over the world. What we saw was him looking over the bubble world! Bills going to make a deal with Ford. If Ford gives Bill the information he needs Ford can go back to his bubble world. This is also why Ford was angry with Stan when he came out of the portal! Because he didn't want to leave. NOT because it could have ripped the world apart. But because he wanted to stay in his bubble world forever. (just a theory)

The fact we know this show has small ties to Rick and Morty, it wouldn't be hard to assume this is a technology in between ricks first teleporting gun, that was blue, and the green one spanning universes. Maybe the one Ford had only traveled different worlds, in one universe, while Rick could go to any world in any universe. So behind the portal, would just be one of infinite worlds inside their vast universe.

Well in Journal 3 there's a secret coded message from Bill saying that Fiddleford saw Bill "removing his exoskeleton to feed", excuse me for one second. *Throws up in corner bleh bleh so gross*

I like the idea of how in the scene where Mabel, Dipper and *SOOS* were about to shut it down and they started to fight, Stan was fighting to see his brother again and if it failed, probably wouldn't ever get him back

Ford is an incredibly intelligent man with lots of potential.

what I'm trying to say is--
I'm positively sure Ford invented the weapons himself with materials from the other dimension(s). and he probably knows how to protect himself because he might have possibly have been fighting against monsters which might've led him to finding out to create a deadly weapon to harm Bill (when he tried to snipe him but failed).
