how to plant you garden...first year deep mulch, wood chips, Back to Eden gardening. Since you won't have the chip breakdown for a good 12 months, you will need to dig out a space, fill with planting soil, plant your start or seed and then bring the mulch back toward the plant leaving 1/2 inch of room around the plant.

Good tip. I did this inadvertently between my raised beds, I've how reached that point where dandelions can grow in it as it's broken down nicely

Here it's been raining throughout the dry season, thats why I'm going with metal raised beds designed to drain water, If you got the weeds controlled, your ahead of the game.

I've been thinking about trying this. I know where there is a crew taking out trees and mulching them at a rest area on the interstate not too many miles away. I don't know what they are planning on doing with the chips/mulch. Maybe I could get some with a little luck.

Excellent information. Every year do you add more mulch or just let everything compost down. Never done anything with a mulch bed
