On March 21st, the US Department of Justice sued Apple for antitrust violations. Claiming that Apple has an illegal monopoly on the smartphone market with iPhone. So what exactly is Apple doing wrong? Well, the DOJ has provided five reasons. First, is preventing “super apps” from ever existing on iPhone.

There was a time when it was only Microsoft. Now it's all companies but Microsoft. Time has changed a lot.

Appreciate the lack of personal opinion here, and just summarizing the lawsuit as it is, thank you!

Double standards on the DOJ's part given most of the complaints they have against Apple are already being changed. Also ironic that they're not suing Google, Samsung, etc. when some of the complaints they made in this lawsuit can also apply to Android manufacturers as well.

It’s not just about the closed ecosystem. It’s not even about competing in the same markets as others. It’s about Apple putting their feet on both sides of the line—are they competing with Spotify? Netflix? Epic? Or are they managing user access to said services? You can’t just set yourself up as a moderator of the user’s online interactions—creating an incredibly robust system of aggregation and limits, creating a multi-billion-dollar global market—and then jump in and compete against the other companies with a massive unfair advantage they can never get around. I’m surprised these lawsuits didn’t come sooner.

Imo the watch claim is total bs. Every company has their own smartwatch made for their phones. Smartwatches are literally commonly known as the biggest lock in for any ecosystem.

I switched to Apple because Samsung was making their phones more and more like iPhones (headphone jack removal was the last straw), but without the security or easy connectivity to my Mac and iPad. No one forced me to switch.

When Microsoft and Android had majority share over the market the US gov had no problem with them monopolizing the industry... but when it's Apple all of a sudden they care enough to sue... meanwhile there are over 50, 000 homeless people in LA alone– where is the US gov when it comes to actually helping the people rather than them spending all our taxpayer dollars on a frivolous lawsuit??? Ridiculous!!!

People 2010: Apples closed system will fail, it‘s bad

People 2024: Closed system is too good, we have to ban it

The last rule like I have to give up on installing payment apps. Since Wallet app is exclusively used in certain countries. While the app one that I used is only available in my country.

You should do a video on why Siri is so frustrating to use. I could think of many reasons.

Same for dictation. Apple couldn’t keep it simple with this feature

I'm genuinely surprised by how many are offended by the lawsuit that gives them more choice and features on their phone.

I switched from android because of problems. I was in their ecosystem and it was a mess. I switched to apple with iPhone first, then Apple Watch, next was another iPhone (for a family member), then an apple computer. The Apple ecosystem is fantastic for me. Everything works with no wasted time ( like with Microsoft and android).

Gov. has no business telling private companies how to design their products. All it does is raise costs for the consumers.

imo I think its a political hit job after the Apple Watch patent thing offended one of the donors supporting the current DOJ, other industries have anti-consumer monopoly practices, plus this admin allowed other companies to merge and have this much if not more monopoly control. 🤷‍♀️

The DOJ appears to be misinterpreting Apple's 'ecosystem' as a sign of a 'monopoly.' In reality, Apple's comprehensive control, from chip design to consumer products, is a rare feat in the tech industry. This integrated structure is the very foundation of the Apple ecosystem, delivering significant benefits to customers. Apps and hardware interact seamlessly, updates flow effortlessly – it's the reason behind the 'it just works' experience that consumers value.I have both Apple and Android devices including Apple Watch, and I don't want to connect my watch to my Android phone, it will ruining my smooth user experience.
