Oceania, which includes Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia, has a long and complex history of human settlement.People have lived in Papua New Guinea for over 50,000 years.Migrations spread across Polynesia more recently, including the Lapita expansion (3,500 to 3,000 years ago) that reached Tonga and Samoa.This was followed by the settlement of eastern Polynesia between 1,500 and 1,000 years ago.Melanesia covers coastal New Guinea and nearby islands like the Solomons, Fiji, and Vanuatu.

Australian aboriginals have DNA link to southern India. Polynesians have DNA links to Taiwan and the Philippines.

Would be interesting to see the DNA of the New Zealand Waitaha people, who inhabited the country before the Maori arrived from the Cook Islands, traced back. It would seem logical that they came direct from Melanesia via New Caledonia, especially when you consider the East Australian ocean current and the North-West weather pattern.

Thanks for the great insight and info on this fascinating subject. I once knew a Filipina who looks identical to the Filipina from the Manobo lineage in SE Philippines that you show so when her image came across my screen especially the eyes it really hit me ...but in a good way 👍 We often hear words like "remarkable" or "incredible" etc to describe Polynesian travels and expansion across the islands but to me what is remarkable and incredible is how in today's world where the vast majority cannot comprehend the obvious and even so much so that they resort to filling in the blanks with the silliest of talk and conspiracy theories simply due to their lack of comprehension. Lucky for us though we have the ancients telling us their story along with diligent research and dedication and thanks again 👍 👏
