Fly The DJI Avata Without Goggles

One thing I would love to see DJI do is to allow us to fly the DJI Avata with something like the DJI RC or DJI RC Pro. Being able to fly the Avata like a traditional drone and not always with the goggles in my opinion would be very beneficial. In this video, I am testing out a mount that allows you to mount a smartphone on the DJI FPV controller 2 giving you a similar alternative. It's not a convenient setup as you still need to have the goggles powered on and plugged into your smartphone. It works well enough as a temporary solution for those who want to do a flight now and then while not wearing the goggles. Manual mode is definitely not recommended when flying like this.

Think I would buy this drone if they do make the controller compatible like this. I like the FPV film footage, it is rather engaging. For me the difficulty would come from having to have a spotter present at all times while using FPV... makes it pointless for me to buy one of these as I'm usually off work midweek and that means most other folks are at work.... = no spotter.

Brilliant! This was exactly what I was looking for. I have just got gifted the Avata, Motion Controller 2 and Integra Goggles from the wife. I also have Mini 2 & 3Pro and Air2s. While it's awesome to fly FPV with the Googles, I know I just won't get as much use from the set-up due to the requirement of a spotter. So your video confirming there is a work around is really appreciated. I wonder if DJI will open up the Avata/Avata2 to be used with other RC controllers. I would have thought it technically possible but whether they would want to do it for these FPV drone who knows? It may impact sales of the DJI line of FPV Goggles for sure but would be a welcome add on for those who don't always have the luxury of a spotter. You have a fantastic channel and keep up the excellent content. Cheers from. The UK! Suffolk Air Adventures.

Great idea, I find myself lowering the googles and fly by sight without the phone in open areas.
DJI, please make it compatible with the Rc Pro.
Great video
Thanks

I hope DJI make Avata compatible with RC & RC-PRO. I'm sure they will sell a lot more Avata.

I agree. It seems totally plausible that they could have the DJI RC work with the Avata. I think that would be great for a lot of people.

Seems like a pretty good way for a friend to watch even if you are using the goggles. I believe they had that on the V1 goggles, but it didn’t work with an iPhone. Of course you didn’t use an app either. It was only for Air Units.

You could just lean ur phone up against the goggles so it’s not to much hassle.

I’d love to have the ability to link the RC Pro to the Avata as well! That would be perfect! 🔥

This is a question a lot of people ask me, if it's possible to fly the Avata without the goggles. So this is great information, it is possible. But it's kind of a convoluted setup. Great video Shawn, and thanks for sharing.

Hello, I have a video image on my phone from the glasses without the flight parameters, the parameters appear in the glasses. In your clip the parameters appear on the phone. Thank you.

Saw the Avata beside the Mavic 3 today. What a small powerhouse.

I use mine with my iPad Air gen 4 because I’m still trying to get used to this Avata, it’s definitely different then my other drones and taking some getting used to.

Thanks for the video. I’ve been wondering if the Video out worked to the phone.

Another thought on how you can use this is that if you have the DroneMask you can have another person experience the same FPV view that you are with the Goggles 2.

How about a video specifically demonstrating the heading tracking feature of the DJI Avata?

Still deciding which first drone to buy. Dji mini3 perhaps. Advice like this is useful thanks. Small enough to carry on my hikes is essential so maybe not extras like goggles. Super convenient is fairly close import and also power to cope with Scottish winds at height.
