This video is all about how to stop 3 putting forever with Golf Monthly top 2 Coach Alistair Davies

This is not about so much putting technique it's more about a solid routine and reading the green.

We want you to have some simple tasks that are easy to repeat and easy to add to your routine on the green and hopefully remove the dreading and often times upsetting three putt that ruins scores.

Most golfers just go to the ball, head down and have 3 strokes and putt. Sometimes they will look from behind the hole, but this is limiting and rarely gives the accurate results.

1st Process To Better Putting. Walk along the low side of the putt

Survey the distance from a perception point of view, is it up hill or downhill from down the line but also on the side of the put gives you a good measure too.

2nd Process To Better Putting. Where Does the water run?

Look at the hole to think if the cup was overflowing with water, where would the water run off to? In the example in the video, it's confirming what my first feel and vision provide was that it's uphill and left to right.

3rd Process To Better Putting. Practice Feel Make Stroke Looking at The Hole

Go Face on looking at the hole. Imagine rolling a ball with your hands.

Technically you want a sound stroke but thinking about this on the green on the course is not the place. But to try and hit a straight putt and roll it along the line you have chosen.

The key here is to choose an intermediate point. Even with a less than perfect stroke, if you focus your attention to roll the ball over that point that is on your chosen line, you are more than half way there.

Extra Simple Putting Tip:

If you find you are long on most putts you hit, you need to stand a a couple of feet closer along your line on your practice strokes.

If you are short on most putts you need to stand further back on your practice strokes.

On of the best putting tips you can have is to ensure you follow these rules.

Your stroke and focus should be within these distances:

Inside 15 feet: Line is the focus
15 - 30 Feet: Feel and a bit of direction
30 Plus feet: All about distance control

Great explanation. I see the goofballs in the comments say this is going to add a ton of time to everyone’s round...

The ppl I see and get paired up with take 9 years on the greens cuz they 3 and 4 putt everything.

Take the time on 1 lag putt, and tap in. OR...rush around the green tapping it back and forth like a clown...

Nice tip about standing closer or further back on a practice stroke depending on wether one is hitting earlier putts long or short. Thanx for the tip

lag putting into a 3 foot circle around the pin has allowed me to consistently shoot in the probably the most important short game skill to develop....It absolutely allows the golfer to learn Feel, Touch, Roll, Break, and distance control....

what a great video! past 8 foot its all distance with a guestimate of the line. distance distance distance. poor putters think stroke and line. good putters think distance. and if you r a serious putter, show up an hour early before the round and putt. that alone will take 3 strokes off your score that day, guarenteed! so now that i dont 3 putt, how do i stop the 4 putts?? lol

I think your comment about practice a feel tangential to the ball makes sense. I wonder if wristy putters find the putter getting ahead of the hands?

Nice tips for better speed & read to reduce 3 putts. But too many other variables to claim a guaranteed 2 putt or less result.. it got my attention, also consider these: e.g. head inflection, optics, the burn, length of putter, ball position, fall line, funnel, stance, grip, alignment, golfers energy level, grip pressure, optics, width of ball at diameter, rate of spin, rhythm, timing, release, ball layer construction, the grain, course topography, axis angel, dew on green, type of grass, position of the sun, firmness of green, the golfers own ability to roll it, club face, swing path, timing, focus, shoulders level, spin tilt, club loft, visualizing, feel, waggle & swing trigger, just to name a few..putting is an art.. utube is great place to learn & sharing collective knowledge.. btw I like ur range system idea reminds my of the Xbox graphics.. please put out a video on it.. peace
