EDIT: I’ve been told SD doesn’t charge you for blurry images now, and if that is true, I’m very happy to hear that -

This is a great start, but it’s still not really a replacement for the option disable safe-mode. Hopefully they'll bring back the disable safe-mode feature. That's really the only thing preventing me from having 100% confidence in SD online long term -

Can't beat free and open source. Regardless of the current quality of Dall-E, inevitably stable diffusion will transcend it through use and refinement.

For people that don't know, you're only censored if you run it on the website.
By running Stable Diffusion on your computer, you can render forever without censorship. (depending on the fork you chose)

Here is my experience:
- Dall-E doesn't let me sign up and says "not available in your country"
- DreamStudio gave me 200 free pictures when I signed up, not 100.
Stable diffusion is amazing at creating realistic characters when you use Euler a, DMP2 a Samplers (LMS is for stylized and painted/drawn look) and the rest of the samplers usually look like LMS.
* SD on PC is far more superior with a lot more amazing tool and upscaling options.

Stable Diffusion local install, no filters, no cost. beats them all.

Stable Diffusion has a completely free version though, if you run it on your computer. I just got it installed today and I'm getting good results.

I think it should be mentioned that Stable Diffusion is open source and people can run it o their machine for free, without censorship, if they have a good video card. Even if you do not have a powerfull hardware (my case), it is possible to run it over Google Colabs. I have thousands of images generated by SD without spending a penny.

With the advancements in the last month or so super automatic111 SD local install, Dreambooth and even running Waifu as your base model, there’s no contest in my opinion. Local SD is way superior in almost every way mentioned. Free, uncensored, easy to install, intuitive and with more options, shareable and capable of way more beautiful images. If anything Dalle seems to be regressing compared to what you could produce when it first came out. By the way I have open source code and a tutorial on how to use it that will let run you your local SD install from your smart phone anywhere. No costs, no using dream studio. Custom web app.

Craiyon is literally made by the same devs as DALL-E 2, it's just a pared down version (hence the previous name "DALL-E Mini").
It's not much of an "underdog" if it's not in competition or being actively developed. DALL-E 2 is it, that's Craiyon fully developed.

That being said, if you really want to argue over value or censorship, mentioning that you can run it yourself (if you have the requirements) is definitely something to put out there. I know it's something you want to shy away from since you want to compare apples to apples, support the devs, and that not everyone has the knowledge or capability of running it locally, but it feels a bit like a moot point when people know you could be running an uncensored and un-gimped version locally.

In all honesty if you have the capability, and you're serious about AI image generation, you really should be running something like this on your own machine. These days the entire thing is pretty idiot proof once you install the requirements, and it can run on GPUs with 4gb of ram (I even saw someone run it on a thinkpad of all things). You also have the added benefit of using custom trained models and not just the ones by Stable Diffusion or OpenAI.

I set up Stable Diffusion to run on my Windows PC. 5900X w/ 64GB RAM, RTX 3070... free images all day, no censorship. Web interface seems decent. I did have some issues after a few hundred images (rebooting will fix that), and some settings complained about not having enough VRAM (thanks, Nvidia, for being stingy with the memory).

Stable Diffusion is actually very easy to play around censorship by simply hosting it locally, which can be done with Voldy's build. You get to use SD without any filters, policy, or paying for it. All you need is a GPU with decent VRAM.

Imagine if you went to art college and your professor told you to blur your life drawings to protect your fragile mind.

yeah the blurred images are extremely making me lean to Dall-E, sadly
but I'm still choosing Stable diffusion.

Most of the negatives for SD in this video can be avoided by running it locally or with a decent google colab notebook. I get unlimited uncensored generations for $10 a month with colab. Only downside is that it doesn't always handle 1024x1024 images, but I can get pretty close and there are good upscalers usually built into notebooks.

Good overviews. And good pressure too. Hopefully Dall-E comes around, but otherwise, I'm glad there are open source competitors.

The thing with Stable Diffusion is that others can create a website that runs it, so it is just a matter of time to have a better website with Stable Diffusion.

Well, the big one for me was that Dall-E requires you to give them your phone number. Screw that.

I have stable diffusion running locally, so I have free, high quality images

You can run stable diffusion on your own PC without filters

Dall-E won't let me use it just because I live in South America, that alone makes my choice obvious.
