Actually many vowel sounds tend to be more open in British English (for example /ae/, /3:/). The only exeptions are the 'o' sounds like in 'box' or 'call'.

American pronunciation is majorly different to standard English however its has many similarities to Northern English accents and some Scottish accent. My accent is a hybrid of southern England and North midlands. Alot people from the London area think I sound slightly American
