CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) tells Dre (Jaden Smith) about his family's car accident, Dre tries to help through training.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
When a 12-year-old from Detroit moves to China with his mother and incurs the wrath of the class bully at his new school, he makes an unlikely ally in the form of his aging maintenance man, a kung fu master who teaches him the secrets to self-defense. Upon arriving at his new school, Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) develops a powerful crush on pretty classmate Mei Ying. The feeling is mutual, although the cultural divide between Dre and Mei Ying makes a friendship unlikely, and romance impossible. When cruel classmate and kung fu prodigy Cheng learns of Dre's feelings for Mei Ying, he harasses and humiliates the young outsider in front of the entire school. With no one to turn to for help, Dre confides his fears in kindly maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), a kung fu master who knows that serenity and maturity -- not punches and power -- are the true keys to mastering the martial arts. As Dre prepares to face down his intimidating tormentor, he begins to realize that the real fight is just beginning.

Most people fail to realize exactly what this scene is about. Han is feeling like a failure because of what happened to his family...survivors guilt and Dre comes in and shows the culmination of all his efforts. That can heal a LOT of old scars.

The two balanced each other out nicely. Dre was in need of a father figure that could help him through his troubles, and Mr. Han saw his own son in Dre which is probably the main reason that he went about helping him.

I wish people gave Jackie Chan more credit to his acting abilities outside of action and comedy

2 things I get from this scene:
1.) Jackie Chan has serious acting range
2.) Jaden Smith could’ve made an amazing martial artist either irl or in Hollywood. Kid was dedicated in this film. Jackie said so himself.

Who else thinks this movie is so much underrated?

What I think this scene tells us is that both Dre and Mr Han were fixated on the past. What used to be. By accepting it and moving on it bettered them both. All they needed was a hand from the other to realise.

The power of Martial Arts is real...I use to be suicidal until I discovered wing chun which helped me break through a shell I seriously thought I never could. I’ve learned a lot from it and gave me purpose. For anyone who feels down sad depressed and just feel like giving up I seriously advise for you to try Martial arts you will find your inner peace

I love this scene. As a kid i didnt really understand it, but as an adult being in a similar emotional situation, it is a very powerful scene

For all those people who say Dre didn't care or rather wanted to training, that's so wrong. He wanted to be one with Mr.Hahn, so his che opens up and he can calm down. So he can feel relieved and peace in his soul/heart. They never did this before and they connected by doing this. This is so emotional.

Honestly the shadows and the music put together made it look so beautiful it was like seeing a ballet but obviously it wasn’t it was fighting but what I’m trying to say is the moves where perfect and strong it was more of a dance and it looked beautiful

James Horner really knows how to sell the feels with his music. Rest in peace.

This scene just shows what generational/ancestral trauma is and how devastating it is.

Every year Han breaks the car the same way the car crashed, constantly reliving that scenario with an illusory hope that it will pan out differently.

Until we can accept our circumstances, and know that scars are never meant to fully heal. They will always be there, but without acceptance there is no salvation.

Often times the universe tests us quite literally, other times the universe tests us in ways where we can only see within.

I cried in this scene because my childhood hero was breaking down. Jackie poured his heart out in this scene.
