I have this phone on my shelf running ios 6, jailbroken with tons of tweaks. It's fun to look back what the old days were like with the skeuomorphic design.

Update: don't buy those gold replacement batteries! They're apparently horrible quality.

Hope you enjoyed the video! I had a lot of fun using it and have also bought a cheap iPhone 5S. Maybe it'll feature in a future video :)

Legendary phone. It came out when I was just starting high school, and one of my friends got it as soon as it came out. It was a beast back then, and I don't really think any other phone was close to this one at that moment. I remember how we were amazed with it's performance, and how it was faster than any other phone. Also camera quality was one of the best, if not the best at the time.

The nostalgia never ends but the popularity don’t stop!

Oh God you showed the Gold "Business Batteries" as a replacement option. (if they even spelt Business right on the label.)
Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!

This was such a beautiful trip down memory lane. When you brought us back to iOS 6, I almost teared up. I still have mine (64GB model) in its box in my drawer.

So much nostalgia in one video, Nathan! I brought one of these back when they first released (I still have the Apple drawstring bag it came in), and this was my first ever iPhone and the things this little beast was capable of the time, was an absolute godsend. I wish I had still kept it all these years, but thanks for bringing back the nostalgia! <3

I had to use a 4S with ios 9 for a few months back in 2019.. one of the worst smartphone experiences of my life lol. Nice Seiko btw, gotta respect a man with good taste.

My mum got the iPhone 4 when it was released, this was the first smartphone anyone in our family had so naturally, it took some time to understand. I remember playing heaps of random games on it, my favorites being Omega Drive and some plane game that plays the saddest piano you'll ever hear when you crash.
This phone is on some version of IOS 7 and it is very slow, but it gets the job done if you're patient. The battery still holds up very well, along with the design, camera and even the screen. The home button now however is failing.
Personalty I just love the design that older phones had, small square screens, thick bezels etc. Don't get me wrong I love modern phones, I have an S20+ and couldn't be happier with it, but there's just something about older phone design that I just prefer.

Those days just seemed more fun than the times we are in now. That skeuomorphic design is cooler, feels more connected to the real world

I will say, the design of the iPhone 4 and 4s ranks near the top if you ask me. Like, I had a 4S for *years* and I absolutely loved it, it was comfortable, easy to use with one hand, and it felt solid and well built. It also had a bit of heft to it, which I'm a fan of.

I successful restored my iPad 2 to iOS 6, it’s amazingly fast and smooth. Brought a lot of memories playing PvZ.
Wish Apple consider some system themes for customization, bringing older iOS icons!

The 4S was my first smartphone and I loved it. I still have it, and it works perfectly well. I used it until 2016, right up until the os stopped being supported.

I had to use one of these two years ago when my iPhone 7 broke. I have to say, Apple's icloud makes it really easy to just have all my stuff there once I signed in. Apart from the smaller screen, I didn't actually notice that much of a difference

remember back when phones who started getting LARGE screens like... 5" ... and they were called "phablets"? 🤣
nowadays pretty much every phone is now a phablet

This was my first new iPhone. I still have it, but I obviously don't use it any longer. I'm actually really looking forward to getting the 14 later this year as the asthetics of the 4th gen iPhone are very present in this new generation, and I liked it. The rounded edges don't do it for me.

I'm using my 4S as a internet radio for my Philips DAB+ retro-styled radio. It has a iPod connector and i can plug the 4S in to listen to some radio streams. Works quite well. Even with the latest iOS. Otherwise it's slow as hell. D:

I used a modded 4s until mid 2021 actually! Replaced the back with a clear one, replaced the battery, added Kryonaut thermal paste to the CPU because why not.

Photos look superb with the camera, I think a trend will come in to use old phones to take photos for a different colour scope and quality. A lot of people use earlier digital cameras for the same reason. Just got a 4s for £1.52 in a job lot and refreshing size to use!

Nice review! I still have my older Samsung devices as well, notably a Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus from 2012, and a Samsung Galaxy S4 from late 2013.
You've mentioned the exact reason why I don't install system updates on older phones (unless they cannot be avoided): app support is only going to be guaranteed for a short amount of time, whilst each update of OS tends to affect performance of the device.
It's why my Galaxy S4 still lives on Android 4.2. It can be upgraded to Android 5.0, and I could have done that a year or two ago (to get apps working again), but nowadays even Android 5.0 isn't enough for full app support. Therefore, it's not worth me updating the Android version.
