The problem is whoever does this will be compared to Kai, I think as a presenter he was quite good in his own right. I have to say though it wasn’t really anything near a scientific test...but would we have it any other way with DR? But there again some tests go too far into pixel peeping.

Comparing corner performance of full frame lenses on a DX body is a really useful thing to do.

Did you seriously just compare sharpness at f/11 only?

If the tamron edges are soft on a DX body, doesn’t bode well for FX performance.

why are you shooting at iso 6400 in broad daylight dude

To be honest if we didn't have Kai's (and Lok's, and Alamby's - shout out to the original trio) videos to compare with, we wouldn't really have anything to complain about this video.

I'm not a YouTube expert, but I think if we're to objectively find out what made Kai's videos so great is that you can clearly see his personality front and center in the video. Yes, it helps he's goofy and entertaining, but that leads me to think that showing personality in a video is key to making it great. The fact that I don't remember the new host's name is maybe an indication of how things can be improved.

I hope this gets considered as constructive criticism. Hong Kong was and still is a great backdrop for a photography channel so I'd like to see DigitalRev become at least a channel we wouldn't cringe to watch as we reminisce about the old days.

With TCSTV getting new hosts and Chris and Jordan moving to DPReview, the future of these "fun" photography channels is up in the air.

Also: shutter speed too high on the video camera. Probably forgot to bring ND filter. But that's only because we've been so accustomed to high production values.

I shoot a lot of wildlife and for that I far prefer using 200 and 300 primes but although it took me a while to come around to it having rather gone off long zoom lenses, the 70-200 zoom is a highly useful focal length lens. From personal experiences of using 2.8 versions of both a 70-200 and a 300, unless you have a specific use that requires the extra speed and I have known photo journalists who do, I would agree that they do not represent value for money but worst of all is the weight penalty. A Canon f4 L IS 70-200 weighs 760 gms but the same f2.8 version comes in at 1490 gms on a day's hike that does make a difference.

Just bought myself the Nikon f/4 a few days ago, no regrets.

Bought the Tamron for my Nikon D610 its razor sharp!
F4 is enough to shoot in daylight, only in low light you need a 2.8.

3:48 1/1600th of a second for... a tortoise? Did you worry that they could "rush away"? ;-)

If y'all don't need vr (most don't) get yourselves an 80-200 f2.8D 👌

First of all great video... Anybody else tripping on the host's accent? Scottish? Asian guy. Content and accent kept me watching..

Define better! Will that Tamron be around in years to come compared to Nikon or hold it's value. Nikon has a reputation for being robust. The Nikon f/4 is not one of the most sought after lens and is a bit of a white elephant, most go for the 2.8. The 2.8 is a great lens and highly recommended in reviews. So not that difficult to decided which is better....neither, they are not lenses that would be considered?

You know what,
it is not cool to go and click all over the place and SHOW almost NOTHING.
This is exactly the kind of videos youtube does not need more of. Annoying as hell.

That's how to keep making videos, thanks!

What about wide open sharpness and vr? How do each perform?

Real question, what if u could buy the Nikkor for €100 second hand? I'm in this situation, I'm replacing my very old Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 because it's so damn heavy and because of that I don't use it as often as I should. So in a couple of reliable websites I can find the Nikkor for €899 second hand and the Tamron new for €799, what would u do in that case?
