It's interesting to me that even before the balance changes these pros played Protoss as the off-race to avoid mirror matchups. Apparently it's a good choice.

In compatible AoE II there are pick and bans on maps and nations - so pros need to play any nation

I've always wondered how impactful it would be if protoss players put more emphasis on using their stalkers to focus down medivacs during small skirmishes instead of letting them spread their shots among the marines and mauraders who are getting healed by said medivacs. At least in the first game it seems to have worked quite well for Clem.
