I always thought D-Day stood for “Disembarkation Day”… You know how allied planners LOVED their particular style of language when it came to literally anything that might be written down or even spoken aloud. I also thought it was fitting in that the definition of disembarkation is: “The act of leaving a vehicle, especially a ship or aircraft and at the end of a journey”. Maybe I’m just reading too much into it, but it’s nice to think about the possible intent behind the choice of words being “The end of the journey, the last boat you’re going to be on until you’re heading home, the final push…”.
