In this scene the actress actually got hit in the face when donnie yen was defending her and she refused to do another take until donnie convinced her she wont get hit again lol

This fight has some of the finest camera work I have ever seen in a movie, that tracking shot down the stairs, rotating into the landing and then following again down another flight of stairs was really smooth.

The guy is actually a muay thai martial artist and stunt man. He was part of tony jaa's stunt team. It looked like he was doing more muay boran than muay thai. He is a stunt man so they had to modify the fight scene to fit the movie. Of course donnie yen (ip man) is going to win.

The Muay Thai fighter is Simon Kuke, a Thai stuntman, action star, and action choreographer. He trained in Muay Thai, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, and Wushu.

Fact that Donnie Yen was already 52 when this movie was out made it even more amazing that he's still that agile.

The camera tracking them down the stairway is brilliant. Good flow. Non of those shaky stuffs.

I think my favorite part of this is that, from 2:26-2:38, as far as I can tell anyway, it's just one shot. Great visual.

This is my favorite fight out of all the Ip Man movies. Never attack a man with his wife there. Donnie had to lay it on him extra for that. Lol ;o)

It's a common misconception that wing chun requires space to execute, when actually the whole objective is to close the gap and attack in close quarters, that was the concept the elevator scene was trying to achieve. The stairwell scene was very well done, with the intention to show the geometry and structure to the system, displaying the triangle form of the stance and its effect, although they keep trying to depict the yee jee kim yeung ma as an immovable position which its not.

I love the repressed fury that was being exhibited on the stairway. You could literally visualize the fury despite outwardly maintaining his composure. Like, you could feel IP's anger at his wife being targetted that he just doesn't exhibit to many other people, aside from that time he took down 10 Karate guys. Props to the actor for taking those incredible falls, holy shit taking those falls as a stunt guy deserves so much respect.

The scene is truly emotional. The woman was IP Man's cancer stricken wife, so to attack him with his sick wife in the elevator pissed him all the way off and it was awesome. You could feel the anger and emotion in his attacks

The uncut scene that ended with the Muy Thai guy falling down the stairs is next level Kung Fu movie. Just amazing.

I love the Ip Man films. Donnie Yen's sense of calm and purpose is absolutely gripping.

one of my favorite scenes by far in any fighting movie. I know that the choreography is stretched to fit the wc-style, and Donnie just get everything right down to every little move, making him look out of this world. In reality, this would've probably ended in a whole other way. But all of these movies (only seen 1-3 though) are so beautiful, almost every scene gives me the shivers. Damn good acting.

One of my favorite fights in this whole series. I love how IP MANs wife looks at him when it is all done and relieved that he was okay but also knew that he was going to be okay.
